Seriously? I am a Kelly Pavlik fan but he has yet to proof something at Super Mid.

He fought a slow and close fight with a club fighter, Alfonso Lopez and won a close SD.

There are rumors that his alcohol problems aren't solved. He is now fighting Darrel Cunningham ( Who's that??? ).

If he doesn't look better Aug. 6th he doesn't deserve a title shot with Lucian Bute or Andre Ward. He can with a lot to proof in his fight with Jermain Taylor, Edison Miranda, Gary Lockett, and Fulgencio Zuniga. He fought terrible with Bernard Hopkins then did okay with Marco Antonio Rubio. He came back then and looked bad against Martinez and then went to rehab. He came out, and looked bad with a club fighter ( Alfonso Lopez ) and wins by a close Split Decision.

I am sorry but Kelly was impressive but he needs to proof to us that he still has it. We cant just think he is still good.

He doesn't need to "earn" a shot with bute. But the winner of them two would be a good opponent for mikel or the true champ.

Uh oh. Booradley is going to be on here in a minute with his spiel about us all being influenced by HBO commentators (even though a lot of us watched the british broadcast of the Lopez fight) and how Lopez was a solid opponent..... yeahhhhhhhh

When a boxer is ranked at the top or near the top of a weight division, and he moves to another division, then he tends to be ranked high in that division too.
Plus there's little shame in losing to Sergio Martinez.

its normally not necessary to point out the obvious, but this is ESB

That fight wasn't close, Lopez tried to fight like a spoiler and a proper scorecard has a pretty wide margin for Pavlik. It was also his first fight back after a lot of personal issues and quite a long lay off. He's fighting Cunningham as a tune up and chose him because of his southpaw style too.

Exactly to the Martinez part, especially since before that cut opened Pavlik was really rallying there and winning rounds :)roll: to the 'Sergio was resting' crowd'). at the bolded part.

yea i had the fight 98-92 Pavlik..of course there was going to be a little rust but after the 6th Pavlik started to get his timing down and that left hook was looking vicious

Alot of fighters havent earned shots but got them anyway. Margarito didnt deserve his against Pacquiao but because he was a good name for a resume he got the shot, as Pavlik will be a good name/win on Bute's resume he will also.

Interbox doesn't care if Pavlik deserves it.

    (relatively) Big name in USA.
    (relatively) Big victory.

Makes Bute more known to the american public.
