How can a guy who was once considered a top 5 p4p fighter lose to a guy like Karpency?

Dawson is still only 32, he "should" be in his prime.

Did Ward(followed by Stevenson) "ruin" him?

His loss to Ward followed by his brutal KO loss to Stevenson pretty much finished him.

this proves yet again if a fighter who gets knocked out in a brutal way will never come back unless your not manny pacquaio who has come back shows how great he is again

Going down to 168 to face Ward probably ruined him.
He always had his shortcomings and lost a step since, wich is just the difference between the top at LHW and what's left of him being a so so contender.
Also LHW quality has gone up since his reign. He would probably have been chinned by the likes of Stevenson and Kovalev too at his prime.

dawson and tavoris cloud have really gone downhill dramatically in their last few fights...as I said in a previous thread, I suspect a lot of it is mental. Neither dawson nor cloud ever took any kind of sustained punishment in the ring, yet both are practically shells of the fighters they were two years ago...there's a lot more going on there than meets the eye.

It's boxing, fighters get old after one bad loss/overnight

Glass Jawson in my estimation never had it to begin with. He did some things right in there, but largely went into the ring zoned out and without any urgency or desire. He would fall apart if he couldn't look absolutely picture perfect.

I said a while back that Dawson was a level below Cleverly, it has been shown by a common opponent

I don't think that's fair. He fought a great fight against Johnson I and showed alot of heart I just think he needs to sort out his priorities

Dawson has been on the slide for a while and those losses to Ward and Stevenson have clearly affected him mentally.

He was mentally in it only for a few fights. He's a tedious fighter in the ring
