Given his style of fighting, age, and the fact that he's a small MW....absolutely not. Not overrated at all. It appears his legs are finally slowing down but that's due to father time beating him, not because his competitors are more naturally gifted. Not even a current version of Floyd can utilize his legs the way Martinez does and be able to dominate bigger guys. Sergio is human so obviously he's going to decline at some point. But for someone over 35 to be able to fight at a high level with such an active style for a significant number of yrs, it's amazing.

To be honest I never ranked him as high as many do/did but he is just past his prime now. He isn't shot but he is a fighter like RJJ who relies on his athletic abilities and they're much worse than they used to were especially after a layoff and an injury. He's had a pretty good longevity for a guy who relies on athletic ability which has probably to do with him starting to box at a late age. He will probably look a little bit better in his next fight but he should consider retiring

He also has never drank or smoked which probably has also helped his longevity

absolutely no knowledgeable poster would ever say that . . . just some silly fanboy I hope.

I think he was/is a very good fighter but given the depth of the MW division over the years it is hard to consider him as an ATG. Now if he were in the shallow SMW division he might be near the top.

He is a great boxer, but we are serious...the best fighter that he fought has been margarito and p.wiliams, he lost 2 of 3. How does he fought more? Pavlik( he is past prime). Great boxer but no all time great sure.

Apart from the moronic comment the OP made, the only thing I can say is too bad Sergio didn't get the big break he deserved earlier in his career. I think i speak for all boxing hounds when i say we wold have had more fun watching Sergio against top quality fighters rather than having a hand full of fights late in his career. Cause look at his last 6 fights. He came to fight the best around

He put everything he had into the Chavez fight and it clearly marked the end of his prime as a fighter. His body is breaking down fast.

His style is not going to work much longer, Golovkin would beat this version of him.

I had him by one point. Those late rounds Murray let them go. If they counted the 2nd kd, then yea Murray would of won.

Still no Martinez is not overrated. He's 38 or 39 and has had many injuries and still fighting top contenders.

This is all accurate enough I guess ,but did Sergio not appear significantly diminished?

The Sergio that fought Jr. or Dzinziruk would have KO'd this last guy (whatshisname from last night) by the 8th round, I reckon.

Sergio needs to be fed to Golovkin.
