They should have made all the Calzaghe programs free to air to encourage people to get Setanta for the fight. I think the 24/7 programs helped build great interest in Mayweather/Hatton, Setanta should have used their build up programs in this way, instead you have to be a subscriber to see them. I don't care, because I'll watch it round a mates, but they're underselling the fight.
I htought the 24/7 thing was going to become the norm now and that they would be pushed to get fans interested. Setanta are especially missing the trick because most of the country must now have free view that picks up there channel? Sports fans who have heard of Calzaghe but not regulary watch boxing would pick up an interest for this fight if promoted right. Big **** up situation. Hardly anyone is going to watch it at this rate.
They are free to air i think. I do not have sky upstairs, but have it downstairs, i have been able to watch all calzaghe stuff upstairs this week. They did the same with hatton vs castillo, haye vs macca and calzaghe vs kessler.
Those 24/7 shows are there to pick up the casual fan.If you like boxing your going to watch the fight regardless of being able to see what tiles a boxer has on his kitchen wall.Personally I think all that nonsense messed up Hatton he should have got his head down and prepared properly for Mayweather.
24/7 shows are brilliant and frankly inspiring. Great idea.... All we need now is a heavyweight contender series and boxing is back on the back pages in the next couple of years.
Rogan! :good On a serious note though- the problem with the heavyweight divison is its faceless. Put a good class of heavyweight in the contender machine and at the conclusion suddenly they have got a fighter who has profile.
Watching Calzaghe talk about anything makes me want to switch off. Inside Sport done it right on monday, ignore Calzaghe, show Bernard talking for 10 minutes :good Setanta need to keep Calzaghe hidden if they want good figures for this fight.
No, Calzaghe the boxer is obviously good and a good name. But his personality is devoid of any excitement... Did anyone manage to sit through the whole half-hour of Des and Joe or whatever it was called - I didn't even get close.
