I liked Calzaghe's bullish attitude at the PC the other day. Calling BHop a phoney. It's obviously not true, but I'm glad Calzaghe is speaking like this, if he was sucking up to Hopkin's and calling him a legend then I'd be worried. Then you contrast this with Bunce + Dempsey tonight. Bunce banging on about all of BHop's strengths and saying nothing of Calzaghe's. When it's come to crunch time Bunce is the one with the inferiority complex towards American fighters, the glorious loser attitude. Is Bunce being over anxious, is Calzaghe too bullish, or is it somewhere in between?
Bunce has been brown nosing round Hopkins for a while now, plus he's scared of him since he threw a strop in his caravan, whilst Dempsey goes whichever way the wind is blowing. It could be that Setanta are convinced the viewers favour Calzaghe heavily, and are just trying to balance things up with a bit of blurb.
Bunce has spent quite a bit of time with Hopkins in the last couple of months. Perhaps he genuinly respects him and he's offering a objective view point and not the 'oh he's British so we'll back him' bollocks that ITV and SKY serve up.
Bunce has been picking Calzaghe to win all along, it sounds to me he's now hedging his bets so he can say "I told you so" no matter who wins.
Hopkins looked good at the weigh in and he gives off an air of confidence. I guess people are latching onto that.
Bunce was totally shitting himself then. He seemed to find something very interesting on the floor to look at the whole time. Made for great TV.
I am one of the few guys who defend Bunce here nowadays, but hes been going a bit crazy in the lst few days, saying Calzaghe 'destroyed' lacey & Kessler. OK, so Calzaghe gave lacey a bit of a leathering. However, no knock downs & a points win. Doesnt count as 'destroying' Lacey in my big book of boxing knowledge. As for Kessler? Fine win for Joe & he toughed it out to win a deserved UD. Once again when I looked into my big book of boxing knowledge though, I didnt see winning a tough fight by UD as 'destroying' someone. Its all that bluster you have to listen to from these shores that gets right up my nose though nowadays, openly being biased towards the home fighter. Cant anyone be impartial anymore?
yep. once, in the twelth. and that performance was near on perfect. i would classify that as destroying him.
you could almost classify it as fact. pre calzaghe Lacy was knocking everyone the **** out, he now looks far more timid. joe did a proper number on him.
Had to get up and walk out of the room when Bunce was rattling on about Hopkins. He was suggesting that Bernard had a plan A,B and C for the fight which is all well and good, but he did not have any such back-up plan against Jermain Taylor. On BOTH occasions!
Dempsey has become awful and far too big for his boots cutting across replies and talking **** along with Bunce (I don't mind Bunce but this has been a poor week for him). McGuigan and Woodhall showed their superior knowledge and analytical skills and thank god they were around to counterbalance the **** coming from Dempsey and Bunce
