I was talking with a mate today about Setanta's new role in boxing. He can't stand the setanta coverage and hates the channel with a passion.

I argued in favour of the channel since it has shown nearly all the big fights of late (noteable exception being the Wlad fight) and it is completely free for me since i am a Virgin XL customer. If Sky had their hands on Calzaghe-Hopkins it would be a £14.95 job for sure.

However, I agree Setanta's coverage does feel amateurish. I noticed during Wigan-Chelsea last night they had a full screen advert saying it was a WBO, WBA, WBC Light Heavyweight title clash. This is the biggest fight they have ever shown, so you would have thought they would know that this is for the Ring title.

I was wandering what the general opinion of british boxing fans is on Setanta?

Admitedly at first i thought their coverage was poor. I can understand why people get pissed off with Setanta, but for every criticism i feel there is an explanation.

    The poor production quality?

Setanta have only been producing their own TV for the past 3 years. Look at how bad channel 5 was at first. They have also dramatically improved their coverage of late. A problem for them is that Sky get it 99% spot on, especially when it comes to building up fights. They will not be as good as sky for a long time. For the big fights however they are starting to have preview shows, national advertising.

The use of a foreign commentary?

Its better than not seeing the fights at all.

    The delay in the coverage?

    This is not setantas fault

    The pundit and commentary team?

Bunce gets on everyone’s tits, but he is enthusiastic and good for those that do not follow the sport on the scale that we do. He can also be overly bias towards British fighters and makes stupid predictions ( i don’t know if he is overly patriotic or told to by setanta to build up chances) Picking Hatton, Skelton, Woods and Rees to win their last fights when anyone who new boxing new they were heavy underdogs is a prime example. He is much better for fights not involving Brits. His failure to pick anyone in the Haye vs Enzo fight was also frustrating. Claude Abrams is a good partner for the over excited bunce, he is knowledgeable, but pretty dull.

Rawling does an ok job, and Woodhall however i feel is fantastic, although he can also be bias, his scoring for the rees fight was poor, and he barley said a word during the Woods fight this weekend, probably as he was good mates with Clinton.

They should have Paul Dempsey presenting all the time, they should also have an x or current fighter with them instead of 2 journos as pundits. I am sure when ITV stop showing fights soon McGuigan will move to Setanta.

The big thing for Setanta is that without them we would 100% not seen the last Malignaggi and Chavez Jnr fights. We may have also missed Pac vs Barerra and Marquez, as well as Cotto vs Judah and Mosley as sky missed allot of their previous fights. They have also stumped up big money for Calzaghe vs Kessler, Calzaghe vs Hopkins and of course Haye vs Macceranelli. Remember they also picked up Haye vs Mormeck when nobody else was interested.

They charge £10 a month to me and its well worth it as I watch football and golf, they also so French football which I like and I watch the occasional Gaelic stuff with my Granddad. They are going to have FA cup and England qualifiers next year as well. Considering I pay £15 for sky sports, and still have to pay £15 for Hatton fights (even lazcano which has no meaning) setanta is better value for money.

Setanta is one of the best things to happen to boxing in the country in recent years. I have only downloaded 3 fights this year, i used to do it every other week when it was just sky.

When have they delayed to show UFC???

There are some posative aspects to Bunce, no matter how annoying he is.

Rawling like all good commenters is trying to make things more exciting. Ian Darke does this. Andy Gray gets excited when wigan draw 0 - 0 with Reading.

If they got in production companies expect your subscription to rise to £20 instead of £10.

ESPN Classic is already a channel that shows classic fights, I do think a weekly or fortnightly boxing show, discussing issues and news with guests would be nice.

Sky turned their back on the world scene to cover domestic, setanta stepped in. I would rather see Pac vs Marquez than Lynes vs whoever. they have also signed a deal with Warren and Hobson so will have alot of domestic stuff!

The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is “a load of bollocks” and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.

This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to.

    This content is protected
. Because this is exactly what major ISP's have been wanting to do for years.

    But we can stop it.

If the masses of the internet react against this, we will set an example of what happens when one provider tries to take away our freedom. We will make it very clear that any ISP who tries to infringe upon net neutrality will see its popularity go down the drain because the users don't accept it. And we'll see to it that only the providers who care about safeguarding our internet freedom have our support

no more internet. Virgin are bringing in new laws as well soo soon you wont be able to download free music, they will have restrictions on everything

I actually quite like Setanta and feel they are imptoving in all departments.

I really think Richie Woodhall is a gem on commentry.

I think we have a great mix of boxing on TV at the moment. We get a great mixture of the top international fights and a great lot from the domestic scene. We miss a few fights but hardly a weekend goes by without some form of boxing being shown. I really like watching the domestic fights and the elite fights from abroad so I can not really complain about anything.

Khan is potentially world class, colin lynes and his opponents are (no offence to colin)

I watch all boxing but prefer world class stuff to domestic.

UFC was on setanta 1 and Skelton was on 2. They went head to head.

Khan is not at European level. He has not faced an opponent who is of European level class.

Lynes is the current European belt holder at his weight.

Ok. But seeing doestic fighters box in title fights and non title fights is better than seeing no boxing at all.

Colin Lynes and his opponents are....??

He fought the current WBC Champion so has faced world class opponents.

Don't understand the need to undermine Lynes in order to justify your preference.

I have no wish to turn this thread into a Khan debate either but the FACT is his fights haven't been world class.
