Apologies if this has come up but could it be Haye pulled out of the fight with Wald on account of Setanta going bust. Hayes a pretty smary cookie despite what some think and he must know the 10 fight deal he signed with Setanta is about to go tits up. No TV equals no money, perhaps is just a case Haye is not so much running scared as running scared he aint gonna get paid.
Clearly Sky would like to pick up a fight of such magnitude but surely that would involve another minefield negotiation. Not sure how the whole money thing works with HBO, Goldenboy etc but if English telly is not in a position to cough up the necessary currency thats gotta have an impact.

    Just a thought

Setanta: Sorry David, we can't pay so we're gonna back out!
    Haye: 'Back'? Nice idea!
Press conference: I broke my back!!!

I am always suspicious of conspiracy theories, mostly because they are always rubbish and had that attitude with this at the time but it looks a lot more credible now. i recall that haye was being paid solely by setanta and thats completely right and [proper that he should pull out if he wasnt going to get anything. its a pro sport and a dangerous one at that where he could have been seriously seriously hurt with klitsckho and had his career ended.

its not proper to say it was an injury, i wouldnt have had a problem if he had said this was the reason not to fight however a whole lot of clowns on this site would say hes a coward or he should have fought for free, bull****

There is nothing more to the injury. Haye had everything to lose by pulling out- I fail to understand anyone's dissenting logic in this case. Had he fought and won, he would have become a sensation as soon as he stepped outside of the ring and, with it, money would have showered him anyway. Setanta's £950,000 is insignificant, not to you and I, but in terms of the kind of money he could have generated if he had fought and won. Had he lost, I'm still sure he would have got paid; Haye's Setanta fee is probably Setanta's easiest bill to pay off at the moment.

    stop speculating

Why? by whom? i think the 30 million they owe england and 3 mill they owe scottish football would be slightly more pressing issues for them. that money was not insignificant by any means, if worst case scenario he got badly injured im sure it would have helped his medical needs

You can't argue that Haye's contract is Setanta's most pressing problem. It's nothing compared to the other money they owe. Also, considering how many subscribers would have signed up for the fight on the night, I'm sure they would have at least broken even. This is coming from someone who actually worked 1 shift in a Setanta call centre. Each subscriber pays around a tenner for 'connection' then they are bound to the contract for a month- they need to cancel within that subscription for that month within 30 days or they are then charged for another month's subscription. You are looking at more than £30 a subscription on the night. All the Charlie come latelies ring up at the last moment. That's not speculation- that's a fact.

If they can't pay the Premier League then they sure as hell are not gonna pay Haye. Football would be their no1 priority and if they did pay Haye all the other sports they owe money to would be up in arms.

In a nutshell Haye could have withdrawn due to Setanta going tits up and if thats the case i couldn't blame him. Thats alotta money to lose whatever way you look at it, tho i prefer to believe that he is injured :)
