Looks like its just going to dissapear sometime in the next week :| http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle6445881.ece http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...ver-bills.html
I hope so, I just ordered Setanta 2 weeks ago, still waiting to get it switched, but guess that aint going to happen now.
I though they were done after they defaulted on that payment to the SPL. To not be able to find the relatively small amount of £3M was the writing on the wall.
I think this is a good idea, at least try to persuade them to cover small hall events - I think it would be difficult for them to try and compete for larger bills, too risky at this stage, better to build a big community first, one step at a time. It would be a good idea for ESB to get in touch with other well populated boxing sites and to join forces to contact and persuade these online outlets of the untapped demand for online PPV fights, due to the pitiful offerings that we currently receive.
Boxing is the only thing that Setanta does with any success. All it's other sports coverage is poor. People complain about sky but it's sports coverage, (outside boxing) is generally of a good standard. Unfortunately, as much as we love it, boxing is relatively minority sport rightly or wrongly. Setanta were never going to make enough money via subscription on the back of it's boxing schedule. Perhaps it means that ITV will show more, or Sky will dip it's toe in the market again. Either way, this is a shame if not altogther surprising.
There is nothing like live boxing, I can't be arsed watching it the next day, it aint the same. i have mates who order ppv Hatton fights etc and say that they will watch it a 9am the next day as they cant be arse staying up, but it doesnt have the same buzz. If these sites can get big fights or smaller fights, I would pay for it.
Youtube etc is great for checking out new fighters or watching some previous fights of upcoming big ppv boxers etc
I really hope that someone comes in at the last minute with a bid. They would be our saviour!! Weren't ESPN meant to be interested? The boxing coverage for us Brits will be terrible if Setanta fold. Not to ention we won't get any UFC either. I enjoyed not having to pay for UFC PPV's while all those yanks had to pay $50 for it.:|
