That seems strange now, but then it was not unusual that big fights from the States, happened during the week. I was not allowed to listen to it, But even at 10 years old, there was a buzz that morning after that fight walking to school. The fight blew my mind, it seemed to me Hagler was unbeatable, yet the more you watch the Duran knock out and the Hutchings fight, the more it seemed The Hitman was going to do the business.
I think they used to put the big fights on a Monday or Tuesday to try and get the punters in the casinos to stay for a long weekend. I was too young to bet but my old man cleaned up on Hagler by stoppage at 6/5. His thinking was that Hagler had never been stopped at 160 and Leonard had KO'd Hearns at 147....
mine was tyson douglas,i remember being in a slight sleep then jumping up outta bed when i heard tyson is down, and commentators going crazy:rofl
I think my first 3am fights were Tyson on ITV, I can recall Tyson v Carl 'the truth' Williams, that guy got blown away and when Tyson entered the ring there was a real chill, you just know that he was going to KO Williams in no time.
Williams told us he was going to out jab and bust up Tyson. And believe it or not, there was some Truth to this, as I believe the stats show in the 93 seconds of the fight, Williams out punched Tyson 20 to 19.....
I think that would have been one of those Tyson fights [looking back at some of Tyson's fights - he did take a bit of time to find his range] were he wasted a lot of shots before he caught up with his guy, but Tyson only need to hit the guy and he knew he was hit:thumbsup
