I must say, I do often find Woodhall's scoring of fights to be pretty damn dire. Nonetheless, I think he's pretty good apart from that and he often picks up on little things that would go over the heads of many other commentators.

Not a fan of Rawling at all, but we're not exactly spoiled for choice as far as possible alternatives go.

Absolutely. Gutteridge/Watt were an incredible team. Knowledge AND passion. Setantas commentary team are pretty poor. But INFINITELY better than any American commentary team i've heard.

Sky really has it down when it comes to commentary. In football Andy Gray's passion alongside Tyler's calming maturity. And in rugby league, Steveo and Eddie Hemmings do a great job.

Rawling and Woodhall are pretty dire. Setanta could do a LOT better.

They've brought in great guys like Bunce and Dempsey. They should upgrade their commentary team.

That Jim Rosenthal fella from ITV is a joke. I know he's only a presenter and not a boxing 'expert' but all he's capable of saying to Froch is...."Well Carl, how do you feel about crossing the old pond?"

i used to like mcguigan back in the days of screensport early 90's {pro-box}...he was a great commentator, rather than the pundit he is now...sometimes i think he just says what he is paid to say these days...wonder if he'd ever go back to commentry..

That is a great point Dougie .. Barry Mcguigan when he was on SKY always offered the best analysis. He was clear and concise which was a welcome change to Nicky Piper who i think is the biggest idiot who ever analysed boxing (why do SKY stick with Piper, Nelson and McCrory are good but Piper always trys to be to clever).
The problem with Mcguigan came when he left SKY for ITV. It was clear that he was the mouth-piece for Frank Warren. He started coming up with outrageous statements comparing Khan to Leonard. You expect that fropm King abd Warren but not a guy like Barry who is supposed to just 'Say it as he sees it', and theres no way Barry thought Khan was like Leonard, knowing how much Barry adores Ray Leonard ..
He was bought off by ITV and everyone knows it, which has dented his reputation with boxing fans .. I still think Barry Mcguigan is one of the best pundits around and Setanta could do with him, considering the somewhat wayward analysis that Steve Bunce comes out with ..

Mcguigan has done the odd show for setanta - the most recent being the calzaghe vs jones fight i believe.

I usually like Watt and Darke but the commentary job for the Khan vs Barrera fight was the WORST commentary I've ever heard. Could they nutswing Khan anymore ? My favourite bit was when Darke bust a nut because Khan took a half-decent shot to the head, he was screaming like a teenage girl.

But anyway guys no matter how bad **** is, at least we dont have Max Kellerman.

Since he started, Woodhall has somehow gradually only gotten worse as a pundit & commentator. Some of his work with the bbc during the Audrey era was especially cringeworthy.

I find him to be quite biased myself, on international fights especially. Rawling's the really annoying one though, doesn't have a clue that bloke.

We can be thankful for small mercies. Mind you let's not tempt fate, imagine if HBO sacked Kellerman and he ended up over here teamed up with Duke.

Terrific night's boxing from Setanta. Bunce, Rawling and Woodhall on top form. Fights were excellent. Rawling had Dodson ahead, Woodhall level into the last. Two judges had it for Dodson, with the third level. Inaccurate reading of a fight..... I think not.
Woodhall an excellent analyst, and reads a fight well.
Not surprisingly, he was one of our best fighters technically and is becoming a very good trainer, not only in his own pro gym but also used by the ABA in Sheffield along with Robert McCracken.
Bunce's enthusiasm is infectious and fight fans should be grateful at his efforts to keep the sport in the public eye. Not only an amusing and inciteful analyst, he is a very good writer. Rawling has commentated for over 20 years, picking up radio and television awards, so must be doing something right.
Maybe the fault just might be in the way you are seeing it ........

Most had Watson by a few rounds. From what I could see Geth took the first, Watson took control but lost a few moments but by and large won more rounds.

Rawling and Richie are good. Duke and Barry are good but a little patriotic so sometimes biased.
