Setanta Vs Sky sports

Terrestrial glory day TV didn't show live fights unless it involved a British boxer. Setanta has shaken things up and have got some big players on board which will hopefully mean that Sky will pull their finger out and start taking boxing seriously again. Can't see it though as football and to a less extent rugby/cricket dominate viewing figures.

It's only when personalities like Hatton and Hamed get involved that Sky will give them the full monty.

If the Benn/Eubank/Collins/Watson/Nunn/RJJ had been around when Sky had full tilt then I'm sure most of these matchups wouldn't have gone unmade.

the only complaints previusly were the coverage and pundatry, but people seem to have warmed to bunce, and woodhall is fantastic. be good if they could get the ffn comentator, sounds just like darke but isnt. and the young guy they have presenting seems to generally be a big boxing fan, and is getting better every show.

Would still be good if they got a fight every week, got more domestic stuff. it appears they have fallen out with warren so could just get international fights.

one thing thats really comendebal is that they promote fights that even sky are showing on there news channel. Sky acted like Calzaghe vs Hopkins and Haye vs Enzo were not even happening!

I was recently in the US for Calzaghe-Bhop and every channel was running **** on it: ESPN, HBO, Showtime, Fox Sports etc... ON the night of the weigh in, ESPN even dedicated a 20 minute slot to it, calling in RJJ, Chris Byrd and others to give their opinion... I was staggered.

Can you imagine that here??!?! Not a chance.

Because a rival channel will broadcast the fight, it doesn't mean that you can't talk about it. It's an issue, deal with it!

By the way, I didn't just sit in my hotel room waiting for every bit of Calzaghe related material to come on the TV!

 

The thing that makes Setanta so much better is that it's only a tenner a month.
I mean, you're paying God knows how much for one awful Ricky Hatton fight.

That's because they have **** all else to show!

I can imagine the scheduling meeting now:

"Shall we carry on with Steve Bunce's boxing hour or shall we show a re-run of Gretna vs Slirling Albion for the 5th place playoff in the Scottish Conference?"

 

I love Senanta boxing coverage. They **** on Sky.

 

I pay £15 for sky sporrts, and then they had the cheek to tell me that the reason hatton vs lazcano was on box office was so that non sky sports subscribers could view the fight!

 

It's like £30 a month including sky sports or something, but the biggest fights such as the Hatton fights are on box office which cost about £15 to £20 a fight.

I do think Setanta should utalize Spencer Fearon, or at least get x or current fighters involved in pundatry.

i think bunce is great but he need a pro to play off.

 

yeh you can, just like you can watch box office movies without having movie channels.

i would get rid of movies but i cant be assed to ring sky.
