Do not be hard on Joe, he is not that bad a guy . . . he has jut been spending to much time in Klitland lately. Spending time in Klitland will mess with anyone's head!

I don't know the timeline. He apparently tried out for the 2000 Olympic team which implies some fairly substantial amateur experience.

Did Mike Perez start boxing 5 years ago after a long stint as a rugby player and a horrific career-ending knee injury?

he had the same age start..from a grocery store. He did have more time to grow, but he accomplished much more at a much stiffer weight. Finding a HW to make noise late has got be easier than finding a guy so light in a grocery store to make noise. He climbed the mountain, Seth has still got load of work to do.

With Nate Campbell...3 years am, 3 years pro, and he is then in with Joel Cassamayor. Pretty similar timeline really. He had to persevere. Mitchell likely will as well, if he is to ever get a World Title like Nate.

He beat an inactive 37 yr old who played into his game plan and rather than take him into deep water he came out cold and was stopped

Mitchell has tools a lefthook a jab a body attack

but as far as this being a weak era I dont know because Chambers Adamek Povetkin Haye Thompson Stiverne would probably beat him

guy is a work in progress and like others say there have been late bloomers

    look at Martinez

But I'm talking about what he already has done and what it says about everyone else.

Can you imagine giving a crippled Tom Brady (or insert some other famous athlete from another sport) a tennis racket and then four years later finding out that he'd advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon?

6 years and Nate Campbell was undefeated...and in a fight with a PRIME Joel Cassamayor. Mitchell has not fought the PRIME opponent yet, 5 years in.

You may be making an argument that Nate Campbell is something of a phenom.

I'm saying something else. I'm saying that Seth Mitchell isn't very good, has near-zero experience, broken knees -- and yet he just KOed a top 30 heavyweight that had never been so much as knocked down in a 33 fight career. That's the crux.

Some people are born with both an amazing chin and amazing power. 5 years is a long time man. I don't even know if Seth can take a punch.

Seth says a lot about Seth, nothing about the HW Division. Even this last win, Ibragimov fought a dreadfully planned fight. He's not prime. He didn't show us Mitchell being able to take quality HW shots. We really haven't seen **** yet, besides that Mitchell can punch some and give a humble interview. He's worth watching but he is not anywhere close to being accomplished yet.

    that was a yr ago

plus add the lay off and add in the fact that he wasnt fighting a cruiser whose punch didnt carry up

Mitchell was not gonna out box the vet but he could get him outta there early and he played into Mitchells hands

to call the division weak based on Mitchell beating a guy who isnt top 10 is absurd

Nate got beat by the prime guys early on. Mitchell would too. Nate had to grind away to get the title. Mitchell will have to as well.

Well how many other linebackers with shot knees do you think could be trained within five years to beat an former Olympian with a 30-3 professional record?

It seems like there could well be hundreds of Seth Mitchell's out there. He might be middle of the pack talent-wise. What about all the star linebackers who still play football, because they still have knees?
