Mitchell (24-0-1, 18 KOs), the former Michigan State linebacker who turned to boxing after a knee injury snuffed out his NFL dreams, made his HBO debut on Dec. 10. Facing his most experienced opponent, Mitchell was impressive blowing out veteran fringe contender Timur Ibragimov in the second round. Ibragimov had faced several quality opponents and never previously been stopped.

Witherspoon's only losses were against top 10 contenders. He was disqualified in the third round against Cristobal Arreola in 2008 in a fight in which he was getting battered when one of his cornermen entered the ring. Witherspoon rebounded with three consecutive victories before being stopped by Tony Thompson in December 2009. Witherspoon (30-2, 22 KOs) is riding a four-fight winning streak, including a second-round knockout win on Feb. 4.

Mitchell isn't playing around, good job cleaning up the old guard and gatekeepers. Next I want to see him fight Sergei Liakhovich

Good fight for Mitchell... he needs these type of fights and even higher step ups from now to next year... because he should NOT face a Klitschko anytime this year or next... unless he takes on Vitali next fall or winter and can catch him on the decline... but as for now.. he ain't ready.. good PROSPECT who needs to continue to work

This fight is not a step up! Not even close. Just go to youtube and watch Witherspoon's many fights against "C" level opposition. You'll see that he is deeplly flawed, easy to hit, and will make an easy mark for Mitchell.

Not a bad fight, actually. He should face Arreola next, winner gets a title shot.

I too don't think anything's wrong with Witherspoon at this stage for Mitchell.

Decent scrap between an American-level at best prospect and an American-level jouneyman.

This is Mitchell's chance to shine.

Lose to Witherspoon, and you have gone tits up as a bust.

Beat him by ho-hum UD, and you're pretty much just staying the course.

Knock his ass spark out, and you've finally made that big statement.
