This fight is being made because Witherspoon trades punches with his opponents. We all know what that means in a fight against Seth Mitchell. Cherry picked opponent...Mitchell comes out of this looking like a new Tyson.

It's a good fight, but assuming he stops Witherspoon, it wouldn't be more impressive than stopping Ibragimov. :verysad But, it's a good, respectable fight, at a good, respectable time for him, nonetheless. It's nothing to get excited over, though, I don't think. :huh

Chazz Witherspoon isn't very good - he's not even in the top 50 HWs after being stopped by Thompson and dominated by Arreola.

For a HBO televised fight, Mitchell should be taking on a live opponent, a bona fide top 50 heavyweight.

But Al Haymon can get his fighters on TV against soft opponents because of his close relationship with HBO's Kery Davis.

He looked awfully sloppy in the fights viewable on youtube. Ironically, his best performance was the Arreola loss, if only because Chazz punched in combo efficiently. But even in that fight he showed zero ability to avoid punishment.

yeah I take that back, he's not exceptionally skilled but he has enough in my opinion to trouble seth mitchell. mitchell can bang and is aggressive but I don't see a host of boxing technique coming from him. I get the feeling witherspoon can exploit that, but not if he cant avoid mitchell's bombs.

You need to understand....Hayman is trying to get Seth a series of spectacular KO's on live TV. That's the only way to build up hype for Seth. And, to get this done, Seth needs to have guys stand in front of him who cannot, or will not, avoid getting hit. Chazz will stand there and try to fight Seth off.

We will probably never see Seth in the ring with a guy who boxes, jabs, and moves effectively. Haymon knows that Seth will get exposed.

Decent fight but a step back for Mitchell imo. I think Ibragimov is clearly better then Witherspoon.

But why is a fight against a hand-picked opponent like this on HBO?

Seems like an undercard matchup to me. But Al Haymon fighters get special treatment by Kery Davis and HBO.

    Two reasons.

One, Witherspoon has a good record, and has a recognizable name to U.S. fans. Therefore HBO regards him as a worthy Mitchell victim.

Two, HBO wants to help Golden Boy and Haymon make Seth look great (i.e., to promote the myth that Seth is a new Tyson). Therefore, they want Seth's sensation KO's to occur on live TV, in front of huge TV audiences.

Eventually, someone is going to tear Mitchell's head off and expose him. But it won't be Witherspoon, who couldn't block a punch if his life depended on it.

Is Chazz a slick enough boxer/jabber/mover to exploit Mitchell's lack of boxing skill? I can't picture it.
