Mitchell will most likely knock Grant out, but it's a crazy, unnecessary risk for his people to put him in there with Grant. Seth has no defense. His chin is suspect. What happens if Grant gets lucky with a long, sweeping left hook to the jaw? Millions of dollars down the drain, if that happens.
IDK Kenmore. Your eye for seeing the intricacies of the minute details of fights is uncanny, but your risk reward meter seems a bit off. You know as well as anyone that Grant is very timid throwing his R hand or dropping his left unless he's poking a jab. He's gaining confidence in his chin and his defense and recovery skills are far better these days, but he's still gun shy. A guy with a ferocious reputation like Mitchell might just have a large enough mental edge to keep Grant on the defensive and allow for Seth to crack the chin.:think
Hey Joe_MacKenzie........ What happened to your thread titled "United States = Leading exporter of Glass Jaws"? It was up 10 minutes ago, and now it's gone. Too much backlash and you couldn't handle it???
No. The thread was a retaliation to another thread "Ukraine=Leading exporter of glass chins" The mods eventually deleted them both.
I say Golden Boy should capitalize on all the Mitchell hype right now, and rush him into a fight with Vlad or Vitali for maximum pay. As soon as the hype dies, or diminishes, then Mitchell vs a Klit will not command nearly as much revenue. We're looking at a situation a little bit like Cooney vs. Holmes in the early '80s. Cooney had lethal punching power and phenomenal popularity, but his chin was no tougher than a potato chip, and he was very hittable. When the big Cooney hype reached it's peak, Cooney's people did the right thing and rushed him into the Holmes fight, knowing that if they didn't go for the big money ASAP, then Gerry would get knocked off by someone else, and millions would go down the drain. Richie Shaefer: don't blow it.
They are trying to take Mitchell the Gerry Cooney route and as we all saw in 1982 that is not the way to do it. Mitchell should be fighting other top 10-12 Contenders to polish and hone his skills. Fighting a bunch of retreads isn't going to do a damn thing but guarantee a payday and a savage beating by a Klitschko. Funny how things never change. And the thing is Cooney was fighting better competition at this point than Mitchell is.
I disagree. If they had thrown Gerry in with top opposition in 1981 and 1982, just for the experience, there's a good chance he would have been beaten. In the boxing business, promoters need to strike while the cauldron is hot. It's like selling a stock while it's at peak value (or overvalued). Sell it and profit at the right moment.
I see...... I disagree with both statements about the USA and Ukraine. Sillahk wasn't even given a count and Senchenko was stopped because of his eye.
You can look at it two ways do they just want money or do they want to have a chance to win? Mitchell won't be making anything close against a Klitschko what Cooney did against Holmes so what is the point of throwing him to the Lion? Mitchell needs to fight some of the lower top 10-12 guys like Cooney should have. I understand your point about the money but Mitchell isn't looking at fighting Klitschko in front of 32,000 people and making 10 million dollars like Cooney was. Apples and Oranges comparing the two.
But Mitchell is not getting any better. No amount of training and experience will help him improve. He's too flawed. In this respect, Mitchell is exactly like Cooney in 1982. Cooney was too flawed to improve, too. Best thing in each case is to go directly for the money. Cooney could never have beaten Holmes, and Mitchell will never be able to beat a Klit.
Uh, I'd take Ibragimov to easily decision the shopworn 1980 Norton or the clubfighter Lyle. And Mitchell may have his flaws, namely chin which is often best built off hunger, but if ability was measure only in technique, he'd beat Cooney, Norton and Lyle, and in terms of modern technique, Mitchell is lacking seriously.
Great points, but I don't see the harm in him learning to deal with fighting a bigger timid fighter like Grant in prep for another large, timid fighter in Wlad. Of course the two are eons apart in terms of skill, but the experience may help him some small way. Dimitrenko would be another good learning fight with very low risk.:good
Kevin Johnson just beat Alex Leapei from pillar to post and stopping him in the mid-late rounds. He really put on a masterclass. He's definitely turned me from hater to fan with his latest performance.:deal
