Did he retire? Haven't heard anything from him since Arreola ko'd him a couple years ago. Too bad, he wasn't really top 10 material but Arreola was a horrible matchup style wise for him, he could have had some interesting fights with other fringe contenders, less aggressive and hard hitting than Arreola.
They loved that guy. He fit perfectly into the anti-Klitschko/weak era narrative. The ex football or basketball player who was not a pro for whatever reason, in Mitxhell's case it was a knee injury. Yet had success as a HW boxer which bolstered their "The best HW's are in the NFL/NBA" narrative. The best thing for them was that even if/when Mitchell inevitably came up short they could just say "Look what someone not good enough to make the NFL did, imagine what a top NFL/NBA athlete would do if he started boxing instead". They are all collectively waiting for another Seth Mitchell type to come along and validate their narrative.
That so called narrative does hold some truths....I don't have the time or patience to validate those truths though I will say that boxing isn't the first option for many underprivileged inner city or even suburban kids in the states, many look towards the fame and fortune that can be obtained for a long career in the other major categories. They don't give out hefty scholarships to major colleges for boxing prowess. These talents find the glory they thirst for without risking dementia. It's not an excuse but a reality. I'm glad other countries are producing awesome fighters it should provide fuel for the youth to up the ante and get back in thier grind.
