I never heard anyone say "The best HW have bad knees and start boxing at 23."

 

I think it became clear that he wasnt championship level or even world class but I think he still could have been a money maker

Maybe its 2 things, maybe they were gonna fodder him to Wilder or Breazle or another US blue chip and he wanted no part of it.....or maybe like a lot of other boxers its not so fun to be KO'd maybe he worried about his health or maybe he had problems after the bout that he decided not to make public

Of course this is all true. I guess the people who don't believe it also don't buy into the idea that some of the best rugby or soccer players wouldn't make some good boxers given the need or opportunity, and of course, the training. The NBA and even more so, the NFL produce and demand exactly the type of men that could make good boxers. Athletic, strong, hungry.

It doesn't automatically mean that all or even a large portion would make a decent pro boxer. But you take some of those guys who make NFL and NBA rosters, give them the proper training and a decent mandible and I'd bet there would be at least a few contenders.

 

I guess if you enjoy 200lbs + men doing chicken dances they yes he was utterly entertaining lmao! I remember watching kilt vs Peter 1 live in Atlantic city and my then girlfriend cringing at the sight of such a large man tripping all over himself whenever a large gust of wind went by his chin lol! Don't get me wrong I love and respect the champ it just freaks me out to see how "human" we really are.

 

Of course some of the other sport's athletes would make it in boxing, but the excuse holds no water for US boxing/heavyweights because they still by far produce the most active boxers, certainly in the HW division.

So the US still has the biggest pool to chose from, but doesn't deliver.
If having 30+% of the entire division even isn't enough then what is?

 

I mean, he wasn't all that bad..... Other than the fact the he couldn't take a punch and didn't have the defensive skills to mitigate that.

 

No doubt, depending on what part of the world you derive from some traditional "manly" sports have lost luster and have fallen second fiddle to more lucrative and less atrociously violent athletic expressions (wink, wink)

It's bigger than that. Where's the next great American featherweights, lightweights, middleweights, light heavyweights, etc? The NBA/NFL angle might hold more weight if we were stacked everywhere else where the athletes were too small to even be considered for those sports.

 

I did the numbers a few years ago based on top 10 fighters ranked by the 4 major org an the US was number 1. In spite of boxings decline in the states I'd be willing to bet they're still in the top 3. If course there is more to evaluate, but lets not pretend more popular sports dont effect the present nor future of the sport. One only has to look at the dismal state of amateur boxing in tbe US to understand this.

 

I've heard of the caste football site and in all honesty I'd rather stay far away from it. With all the blind hate going in in the world today why should i cloud my mind with more non progressive propaganda.
