I respect where you are coming from in terms of your opinion and view on the fight, it was a close fight, and it could have went either way (like you said) depending on what you are looking for. I don't dispute that Kotelnik faught a strong fight and COULD have won the fight, but he didn't BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WORK HARD ENOUGH. Kotelnik was throwing (without looking at the numbers) approximately 40 punches per round landing 10-12 give or take, Alexander was throwing 85-95 punches a round and landing 12-15 of them. While you dismiss Alexanders workrate as a non factor, I disagree, I do view it as a factor. While Kotelnik is turtled up and Alexander throws 8-10 unanswered punches, and 3 of them land, that looks better to my eye and apparantly a judges eye, than the guy that threw 0 in the same time frame. AK went extend periods in the fight where he couldn't get off punches because Alexander was steadily firing punches, and AK was consumed with not getting hurt...I guess obviously I can't say what was on the mans mind. When he would let his hands go, he had success but when he opened up he took punches that obviously made him reconsider his choice. So in that respect yeah Alexanders work rate was a key factor in the fight, and it was essentially the deciding factor because it slowed AK to the point that he couldn't punch as much as he needed to so that he could finish DA and/or impress the judges enough to award him the round.

And that is fine, that is how you see the fight. I wasn't busting on how people scored the fight, I was busting on the people that allow their bias to score the fight.

i think kotelnik won 7-5. i gave alexander the first five and kotelnik every other round.

the comparisons to the froch - dirrel fight are ridiculous. totally different fight. in the froch dirrell fight dirrell fought really negative up until round 10, and he then had a point dedcuted for holding. so a froch win is easily understandable.

Kotelnik has a pretty basic, textbook style, but he's very skilled at implementing it. The two definitely aren't mutually exclusive.

He was brought in because of Alexander's mobility and handspeed- it was expected that Devon would fight and land around Kotelnik's guard rather than try to go through it for 12 rounds (which is really the most foolish way to fight that style of fighter). Had he fought smart and executed it, Kotelnik's is the kind of style he could've looked good against.

What I would find disconcerting for Alexander's future isn't that I don't think he won; it's how he struggled in some areas:

    1) Kotelnik is an average to above average athlete by world standards, but nothing spectacular. Alexander didn't show the edge in this area I expected him to.

    2) Alexander never adjusted to throw wider hooks to the body or head to open AK's guard up.

    3) His shots were consistently short or off the mark, leading to easy counter opportunities for Kotelnik.

    4) His lack of upper body and head movement lead to an easy target for Kotelnik all night.

    5) Kotelnik doesn't hit hard, yet it was clear Devon was feeling the shots.

From a purely tactical standpoint, there's alot he's got to work on and while Bradley and Khan continue to develop, Alexander took a step backward last night. It's only one fight, but when he's talking about fighting the top guys now, all any of them have is fight to fight development.

Huh, the bbc report is just that, a report, all it says is alexander won and then quotes him, its not an analysis, why are you misleading people??

    This is it http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/8895851.stm

Ive read plenty of reports telling us kotelnik won, if you want the links i can message them to you but they will blank out if i put them up here

Actually a lot of people who scored the fight for devon are changing their minds and admitting they were wrong

Reppin, I can't speak for anyone else, but I had no interest in seeing Alexander struggle or lose because honestly, Alexander-Bradley is a better fight for boxing to get more people interested. The idea that 140 was entering a "golden era" with tons of great matches with up and comers relies on the young talent knocking off the old guard. The entire reason this fight was made was to give Alexander a showcase fight to look spectacular for his fans and for HBO against a straight up and down fighter.

The hype that Alexander got was real- every major boxing site has been backing him as a superstar in the making, and HBO themselves was telling us how he was the next P4P superstar. Mainstream hype like that can't be manufactured by bitter fans to serve an agenda. When it looks like the media would rather continue keep that hype train rolling at the expense of ignoring the truth of what happened in the ring, fans get bitter.

Not only have the US media been pretty complacent of everything, there's been absolutely zero talk of a rematch and they didn't even bother to interview Kotelnik afterwards. Even if you believe Alexander won the fight, the way they've sugarcoated everything and have turned Kotelnik into an afterthought is pretty damn sad.

Kotelnik is an afterthought, Alexander is the story, and will be for years to come. I don't mean that as disrespect to Kotelnik, but it's just the reality of the situation. He faught a good fight and gave the Kid a strong run but in the end he left himself get outworked by the hungrier fighter, IMO.

It's times like these that make the Pirog KO even sweeter.

Bring on the next American hypejob (and his fans) to get humbled.
