Gravity is making the weight go towards the ground, the resistance isn't in the direction to give you any benefits. You can't throw full speed and if you do you run the risk of hyper extending your elbows, you have to slow the weight down at the end of every punch. When you're punching with hand weights it's messing up your biomechanics and your stored memory of how to punch. The only benefit is providing some endurance for your anterior deltoids.... Use resistance bands instead IMO. Of course you'll find people in boxing gyms everywhere punching with hand weights and they don't know why they do it, it's tradition....

if your going to shadow box with weights i reccomend 16 oz gloves.

    advantages, are endurance.

i agree it is quite funny that people ask about shadowboxing with light dumbells with out even realizing that shadow boxing with 16 oz gloves on is the same if not better then shadow boxing with 1 lb dumbells.

go ahead and ask scrap how he feels about amatures shadow boxing with gloves on to improve stamina.

as well i appologize if your inability to understand my posts makes you feel more stupid then you allready are.

but really it is quite amusing when you mock my posts while clearly having no understanding of what i said.

but only slightly more ammusing then when people hear Shadow boxing with light dumbells, and immediatly start spewing out reasons why you should not shadow box with 20 lb dumbells.

    Sry for hijacking the thread..

Brown bomber, here is the link.. Thanks man!!

The idea behind this question is, as I'm short, I'm asked to do in-fighting.. But I always like to do a clean fighting since whenever I get inside things move very fast and I end up brawling which I hate to the ultimate..

Being a pensioner, Ive been around a long Time. Suppose Ive seen most things, and Tried them, Im the curios type :D. Boxing in the early sixties, light Dumbbells was the thing that was done, thats what we did, it was what we new.Think it was 68 in ambleside in the Lakes District, went into a Sailing Shopand saw what I thought was Climbing Rope. Held it and unlike Climbing Rope it Stretched, it was elastic. Thought this could be interesting :D, after a while it seemed to take of, everyone was using it, sorry its causing such arguments, Eddie Futch loved the idea :rofl :good

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I'm guessing resistance bands might help more.
