what is diffrent between shadowboxing with 16 oz gloves and shadow boxing with 1 lb dumbells. should we not wear gloves when hitting the bag because of gravity screwing up punching technique? so they didnt do it till they were exhaused, they did it till they chopped down a tree, then they took a break and moved on to another tree. even splitting wood has its breaks when you stack the split wood and set up the next peice. your opinion of how boxers trainined is greatly flawwed. and what about speed bag? most the time thats barely anything like punching should we stop using the speed bag? what endurance exercises would you have replace shadow boxing with 16 oz gloves/1 lb dumbells? 5*3 overhead press with 80% 1 rm? boxers allready do push ups, pull ups, speed bag, and jump rope so theres no need to mention them. elastic bands? oh yippie, i guess those of us with out elastic bands just have to deal. maybe we could do 20+ reps of 20-40% 1 rm????? but wait isnt high reps low weight something boxxers have been doign forever? isnt running long distnace high reps low weight? isnt high reps low weight something that many posters here have claimed is completly worthless? valuable training time? what do pro boxers spend on training? i spend 8 hours a day at my job. who cares about time, energy is more improtant. does shadow boxing with light weights really expend that much energy? if your only focus is on the moon you miss the splendor of the night sky.
Why would you wear gloves when shadow boxing? The weight of a glove is more evenly distributed than a hand weight and you have to compete with gloves, when do you compete with weights in your hand? It's not the same thing. But yes if you want to perfect your technique then shadow box more than anything else. That's without gloves on you ****. Those other exercises that boxers already do is the reason why you wouldn't do your shitty punching with weight/gloves exercises. Those bodyweight exercises along with bag, padwork and sparring is more than enough. Shadowboxing isn't about endurance you knucklehead. Elastic bands you can use for overspeed training, the resistance is in the right direction and as Scrap mentioned the properties of rubber are very similar to muscle so adaptations to the nervous system happen with ease. If you'd been to a gym before you'd know that nobody uses a speed bag for training, it's just for show. The only reason I replied to the training sections supertard is in case there are any noobs lurking who might take what you're saying seriously. I'm about to figure out how to use the ignore function so I don't have to see the constant rubbish that you spew. This is the last time I'll be replying to you, I've wasted too much time being generous in taking my time replying to someone who obviously doesn't have any ability or desire to learn. Get to a boxing gym, swallow your ego that you've developed to cope with your inadequacies and spend more time listening. I don't expect you to change though, have a good one Ylem :good
so the diffrence is that in both cases the weight is at the end of your arm? try again. and if you knew **** about boxing youd know that speed bag training is for blocking and shoulder conditioning. as well its alot easier to practice hooks on a speed bag then a normal heavy bag. it seems its not just your knowledge of old timer training but over all knowledge of boxing that is lacking.
This message is hidden because Ylem is on your ignore list. This is so sweet.... Thanks for being my first ignored person Ylemmy boy
you could have just said, all right your right, shadow boxing with light dumbells is a viable option for imporivng endurance. no need to resort to ignoreing me and proving im right.
Dude as far as i know shadowboxing isn't used for endurance.. hell you have so many excercises why would you want to improve endurance in shadowboxing? Shadowboxing is for the technique (if done right) .. You 2 just have opinions clashing against eachother and there isn't any right or wrong. Yes even i use dumbell weights sometimes, 2 rounds without and 1 round with cause i find it useful but thats it. Not some endurance bull****
In what way do you believe it's useful? What are you training when you use dumbells and why is that the best use of training time in regards to that aspect of fitness?
time dosnt matter.....fuk ****. most pros spend 2+ hours in the gym thats 6 hours less then a normal person works.... you should be asking if its the best use of energy in reguards to that aspect of fitness, not time OMG I CANT BELIVE IM WASTING 10 MINS SHADOW BOXING WITH WEIGHTS WHEN I COULD BE AT HOME POSTING ON A FORUM!!!!! WHAT A FUKKING WASTE OF TIME!!!
shadow boxing with dumbells is for endurance. plus you know you pratice proper foot work and proper defense...reguardless if you got weights in your hands.... so you do it because you find it helpful, yet you have no idea why its helpful but you know its not because shadow boxing with dumbells improves endurance.....right. and personally id reccomend you do the shadow boxing with weights first and then the 2 rounds with out.
What gave you the idea for that as a warmup? No disrespect, you seem like a good kid, Im just curious.
None taken , i understand what you mean lefty thats why i said that you and the other guy just have opinions clashing. How so? Its cause we train differently, i don't often shadowbox as an excercise, i shadowbox to warm up/get the feel before i go on the bag or anythin else. I use weights rarely just cause the round after i feel like i have super rocket hands. I honestly dont look into it as endurance or speed, i just work on it for the technique, headmovement etc. Otherwise i PERSONALLY, prefer working on other stuff. Im sorry if it sounds silly in anyway cause now that im thinking about it i never thought why i would use weights to shadowbox. Good posts tho lefty
ohhh a warm up that makes sense....thats why you do 2 rounds with out weights and then 1 round with? one would think youd do 1 round with and 2 rounds with out if it was as a warm up.
I was told by a competing am boxer before that he advises using a light DB to practice keeping the hands up- and only does half out straight punches back to the guard position not to "shadow box" per say but to get familiar with holding the hands up- while fatigued He was a personal trainer also (maybe commercial gym unsure) but I dont think a strenght or conditioner (again unsure) thoughts ?
