Brilliant boxing performance by Shakur. He made Valdez look like a complete novice and won nearly every round. Very sharp punches, solid defense, and excellent movement. He’s gonna be a hard fighter to beat. The one knock I would give is his unwillingness to close the show emphatically since Valdez didn’t have anything else to offer. I would like to see Shakur step up the gas more and go for the stoppage, but I know that’s not in his nature since he’s a pure boxer first and foremost. People can hate his attitude all they want but he’s no doubt a special talent.
Well what's that make Robson Conceicao? He laid the blueprint, and didn't even have advantage of being southpaw. This content is protected
Yeah but not too much of a tough time, Robson seems to have a pretty bad chin imo and he is easily countered when he comes in and ripes a combination, also havent seen how he fights on the inside, but judging by him being an amateur for age, I doubt he has much of an inside fighting game
Fine boxing, but he didn't do anything he wasn't expected to do. Fight didn't elevate him or bring him down in my estimation. I wanna see him in with someone who brings that discomforting kind of heat.
Shakur will win, it just depends on what robson brings to the table that determines how eqsy it would be.
The test of a guy like Shakur is how he deals with all-out pressure. Valdez was never that kind of guy, and he's on the smaller side besides. If there's a route to the kind of fight I'd like to see him in, it'd be Gustavo Lemos (IBF mandatory) defeating the Kambosos/Haney winner, then Stevenson getting a shot at Lemos for the whole lightweight crown.
Toughest challenge for him at 130 is the scale, Bob Arum hasn't stared at a readout that nervously since his last cardiology appointmemt.
Depends how we define better. They operate at about the same level overall, but a 130/135 lb version of Porter (if such a fighter existed) would be a greater stylistic test for Stevenson.
He's dominated his two biggest competitors at the weight class. Both of who were held in pretty decent regard. I think it's time he cracks the P4P lists tbh. Herring and Valdez were terrific wins that presented differing challenges.
Stevenson cannot fight on the inside which is why I'd love to see him against a true pressure fighter. Mayweather could adjust and even brawl if he was forced too. Maybe Stevenson will get much better or maybe he's overhyped and loses at lightweight. It'll be interesting to see how his career pans out. Perhaps we are looking at the next ATG in their early stages. He has a high ceiling i will say that. I personally love high IQ outboxers and I'll watch more of Shakur
