Forget attitude he needs the DESIRE to do more and that can only come from inside of his heart bru.
True @CST80 Cant tell the future but if ole boy don’t get that FIRE or killer instinct he’s not going to change his style

I'm biased because I like Stevenson but can understand his style isnt going to draw the casual sports fan and a lot of other boxing fans.

He reminds me a little of Rigo and Lara minus the power they carried. He moves around, stays at a distance and snipes with the left hand. He dominates defensively and discourages opponents from opening up which in turn reduces his opportunities to counter. Also, he lacks the mentality to take the fight to the opponent so if the other guy isnt doing much, he isnt doing much. I appreciate the skill defensively and his accurate punching but understand the negative reaction

I will say some of the culpability is on his opposition. They are so overmatched and unable to trouble him at all and he is able to casually dominate without having to bring it up a level. Lara was made to fight vs Angulo and Hurd and those were two wars. Rigo got dragged into a war of his own. I think guys like Navarrete, Herring and Valdez will bring out the best of Stevenson and we will get an exciting fight. His Gold Medal match against Ramirez was pretty fun to watch.

These fools are heaping it on a bit much though. 23 years old 15 fights and they expect him to act like a seasoned vet? I can't argue that he has temperment issues. He acknowledged the fight was boring. So he is aware changes need to be made. All I'm saying is, given his age and experience, he should be cut a litte more slack.

Like Ward said, Nakathila was a knockout waiting to happen and there comes a time when a fighter must show that he can deliver that knockout. Shakur didn't show that and it was very disappointing to me. He can't fight Valdez like that are he will find himself waking up. I am sure Ward will stress that point and hopefully in his next fight he will provide us with a better showing.

I watched it today, well, I scrambled through it, fast forward, fast forward, fast forward...

Sure the young man has talent, nobody can deny that, but he lacks star quality and his style is not exciting.

He's not impressed me, with the little I've seen of him. Wish him well, but I'll be watching other fighters.

I am one of the most vocally zealous people on here regarding loving the sweet science aspect of the sport, hit and don't get hit.

I actually went to sleep, like really went to sleep. Woke up at like 2am

    Shakur gotta do better.

So he can get praised like a seasoned vet, “these guys are ducking him”, “putting on a masterpiece defensive display”, “has great talent and skill” etc, but he can’t be critiqued as one? That’s some funny math.

You make a valid point. Unjustfied praise warrents unjustified critisism. That is a problem that is not just unique to Stevenson. Too many unproven fighters are pumped up to levels far beyond their skill or potential. I always us the wait and see approach before saying a young fighter is either going to be great or something not so special. So far, I see Stevenson a a talent that has a hood upside. Great defensive fighter. We'll see when he gets into a dog fight to see if he has a killer instict or not.

Here’s why I say what I did. You say he is a great defensive fighter. Is it fair to say Berlanga is a great offensive fighter? I would say no to both as they both have not faced top level competition yet. And that’s the problem. Many are too quick to say someone is great at something because they look great at it, against subpar, lower level opposition. We can say a young guy has attributes that can someday make a fighter great at something but at this point, no. Many people thought Broner was going to be this huge superstar because he has fast hands, was friends with Floyd and was getting good promotion. It never worked for that guy. His 4 division titles aren’t impressive because of how many titles there for each division. How many times did he beat the absolute best guy at each weight? Now I’m not saying Shakur will be a Broner, I’m using that as an example of calling someone a great fighter before they even fight the best fighters. Shakur doesn’t qualify as a great defensive fighter yet because he’s not facing top tier fighters yet just as Berlanga doesn’t. That’s not critique either that’s just reality.
