Well that didn’t take long for them to do that.

Why? He already said he plans on moving back down. He also said he might fight someone at 147 or 140 too but at least give him a bit of time to work out what he's going to do and for his team to speak to potential opponents

This is not the publicity these established bodies need with Zuffa getting busy.

I mean Shakur left the weight class and isn't coming back. This is a routine decision. Not a "oh my god those stupid incompetent alphabet bodies" moment.

@Serge said hes coming back down. If thats true I take this back. But normally thats not how this goes. If 135 champ goes to 140 and wins a belt hes seen as being at 140 now.

Didn't Crawford and also Keyshawn Davis have issues with the WBC recently?

Wonder if we will see other names decided to drop their WBC belts and opt not to fight for it to deprive them of sanctioning fees

Its also kind of interesting to see fighters close to Turki having WBC problems

Heard he got stripped for not paying the wbc a sanctioning fee when he fought Teo for the wbo belt.

WBC has a rule that any champion of theirs has to pay them every time they fight, even if the WBC belt is not on the line. Stevenson could have fought an 0-2 guy in Thailand at middleweight and the WBC would have asked for their pound of flesh.
Its probably one of the reasons why we don't see champions taking stay busy fights any more.

Nope, its about the money. WBC was asking for a sanctioning fee, even tho their belt was not on the line. Its actually in the WBC rules that their title holders have to pay a certain minimum if they take a fight with the WBC belt not being on the line.

If he didn't pay his sanctioning fee that's very different thing to stripping him for no reason days after winning the belt at 140 even though he himself said he planned on heading back down to 135 or was undecided on what he was going to do until he spoke to his people

Rarely will I come out to bat for Shakur, but he's 100% right here, what a parasitic organisation taking 100k off him and then stripping him of the belt anyway when he said he may move back down to defend it.

The sad thing is that the WBC is the best and most prestigious belt, and they play on this by draining fighters for fees in any way they can, a thoroughly exploitative organization. Anyone who thinks that Zuffa Boxing will be the remedy to this bureaucracy is in for a nasty shock, though.

WBC is most likely still upset with Crawford and now that he's gone they're taking their frustration out on Shakur who happens to be close with him.
