Shakur Stevenson turns down Top Rank offer $15M/5 Fight deal to be free agent

That is a good offer for a boring ass fighter he should probably take it.
If he was fighting in my backyard I would close the blinds.

 

That’s a hell of a gamble. He’s built quite the dull reputation for himself. The only thing he’s got going for him is that belt so maybe that’ll be enough to entice the other top dudes to get in with him.

 

Don't know who will give him more. He sure as hell wont sell a PPV. 5 fights isnt a whole lot either. Fight Twice a year and in 2 half year he is out. 15 million guaranteed in that time span aint that bad. If he wants out sooner make it 3 fight in a year. 2 years max.

Unless he doesn’t care about the money and just wants to get fight made. If this is the case then I applaud him. Cause if he can make the big fight by taking less and of-course win then he can command serious money. We are talking fights with Davis, Loma, Zepeda. Those types of fights.

with 6 months left in the year it will be interesting if he fights again or hung out to dry till next year.

 

He will only get more if he fight Tank or Ryan Garcia..
I don’t think the fight with Loma will generate a lot more than 3M.
So I don’t know..

 

As one of the absolute only fans that Shakur has............................at first though, I'd say yeah he prolly should've jumped at that offer. But then, Shakur is actually trying to fight the legacy fights. There's no reason whatsoever that Top Rank couldn't make Loma/Shakur. That's literally an in house fight. If you can't deliver something that easy to deliver, why are you my promoter? His decision clearly isn't just about the money.

Personally if I want to fight someone in the same stable as me and my promoter controls the chessboard and can't deliver................what is the point of being with that promoter?

 

I think you meant Shakur/Loma but yea, why can't they get him a fight with Loma or Teo? But maybe the contract thing had been brewing for a while now and that's why they haven't moved him vs Loma? Tank doesn't sound like he's really interested in fighting Stevenson, Haney says he's retired, Garcia is suspended... ...I guess maybe Zepeda since he's Shakurs #1 contender?

 

Who knows with the Saudi's involved now. He may get some crazy purse. It does seem that Turkey prefers action fighters, but you never know. If he stays in the US to fight this is a bad move. PBC is dried up and that's the only way he could make similar money.

 

Christ, Shakur gets more and more annoying as the psychodrama that is his dull career stumbles on. I can’t believe I once liked watching this guy fight. The fact is, is that Shakur can’t sell a fight, his style is boring to watch, he has no marketable personality since he’s a stuck-up, arrogant w*nker who thinks he’s better than everybody else and punches ladies in car parks, and the cherry on top is that he’s managed by a mob boss and that’s the real reason no-one wants to fight him. Nobody is gonna pay for Shakur unless they want to take that belt off him and put his name on another fighter’s record. He’s not entertaining, or charismatic, and he’s not a ticket seller in his own damn home-town. It doesn’t matter how good anyone on this forum says he is, or how good the pundits think he is, or how good he himself thinks he is, Shakur just isn’t a marketable fighter and he’s barely even a watchable fighter now it seems.

 

Tank is probably in the pipeline already.

you're right I meant Shakur/Loma (corrected). I just saw Teo say, I believe last week on camera that he would never fight Shakur so that's kinda outta the question. Not sure what the outcome of that would be if Top Rank or sanctioning bodies would try to force it (I'm actually curious what he'd do).

But both of those fights are in house, you would think this is what Top Rank would want (obviously their larger cash cows losing to a "boring", money drain notwithstanding). I think Zepeda would be a good fight as well, so would Pitbull (even though his people are also on video saying they don't want that fight). Really crazy that he can't get any bites at all.

 

Yea I've often thought this is a tactic to a point. Why match up your signature guys against each other when ESPN is more than happy to be bilked out of millions for these guys to fight inferior competition. Not saying this happens all the time but enough that its noticeable.

Top Rank could have just done a round robin of Shakur, Teo, Loma and Haney at one point. But they didn't and the commentary team just goes " oh man these guys are so great, in the future maybe we'll see them fight each other"

Its BS, they are (or were) under the same umbrella or could be for the most part. Tank is with PBC and Garcia Golden Boy so thata more of a stretch, but the others weren't.
