Again what did pea whitaker have against jcc? Hell even more recently what did Haney have against kambosos?
Cruz is a far better pressure fighter than frigging Kambosos. As far as Whitaker comparisons, sorry... Shakur isn't quite on his level, and unlike Chavez, Cruz won't waste his time trying to jab his way in. While seemingly counterintuitive, it would actually work in Pitbull's favor, because his high guard, physical pressure and bum rushing is far more successful at getting in close for him, than a jab would be.
A guy like Cruz is just the type a guy Shakur likes to fight a guy who will come forward and throw punches with no plan b. Who he can beat to the punch counter or catch on the way in and be gone. Cruz is only good against guys who can't stand up to his attack or are willing to stand and trade. Shakur won't oblige him he will box this dude and won't be there to be hit. You are really underestimating Shakurs skill ring iq and mental toughness.
You're underestimating a guy that should've taken the 0 of Tank Davis, who's violently KO'd every other southpaw he's faced. Cruz's pressure busts Shakur's pipes
I love Isaac Cruz. But this is a terrible style matchup. Couldn’t be worse really. Would be fun to watch though.
Shakur-Loma, Shakur-Haney, Shakur-Tank. All these fights are incredible. Haney would be his toughest fight. All these fights would be awesome tho. Loma probably just a little too long in the tooth & his size wouldn’t help here either but watching those 2 sharp-shoot each other would be something to behold.
I will be honest, didn't rate Cruz highly before the Tank fight as he became a replacement for Rolly. Turned out that he was a much tougher test & fight. Pitbull brings his own unique intangibles to this and he's dangerous for anyone. He took Tank's punches who is a proven puncher even at 140, and Shakur is moving up. The body shots that hit Conceicao would be landing on top of Cruz's gloves as he is short and fights even shorter, that makes it very hard to slow him down with body shots. We also saw Shakur get frustrated with inside fighting and holding. Cruz can hit you with powerful combos on the inside, not only bully and hold you. Stevenson has tremendous accuracy & boxing skills which you can't discount and he could win rounds by keeping distance and countering similarly to Davis, who I thought beat Cruz, close, but even he got clocked with vicious punches up & down. Cruz - Stevenson is one of these fascinating fights that could go either way and has to be seen. If I had to bet my life on it, I'd bet Stevenson by close decision, but in reality, anything could happen. What would it take for the boxing gods to bless us with that next. I don't see either fighter wanting it as the both know it's tough and they want belts instead.
I am a FAR bigger fan of Pitbull Cruz than Stevenson, but let's be honest, this is an easy style for Stevenson to deal with.
It's not out of the question that Cruz, who's one of the most underrated boxers at 135 for his technical skills, could get a KO or TKO over Shakur. But he'd need a stoppage because of his size and style. Shakur could just step back all night and keep him on the jab. Easy win, really. But this is boxing, so you never know.
