Shakur Stevenson vs Joe Cordina Top Rank reports that the undisputed light heavyweight championship fight between champions Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will be shown live on ESPN+ on October 12th from the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This fight is non-PPV, which is an excellent deal for the fans because it’s the best matchup on the card. The weird part is the undercard will be on PPV, priced at $14.99 on a different network. WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson vs. Joe Cordina will headline the pay-per-view portion of the undercard, which is strange because these aren’t fighters that fans would want to pay to see. They're happening on the same day but they're separate events apparently. Beterbiev vs Bivol is on ESP+ non-PPV while Shakur vs Cordina is PPV. Which makes absolutely no ****ing sense. You have 2 of the best LHWs going at it with all the titles on the line while you have a boring stylist like Shakur as a PPV event. They're trying so hard to push Shakur into the public.
Yeah that's what I said. Beterbiev vs Bivol is the much more meangingful title fight where you have the 2 best LHWs fighting that's much more PPV worthy while you have a fight that's most likely going ot be a boring showcase fight. The only good out of this is that Beterbiev vs Bivol is free. But it's still disrespectful how they're treating those two as if they're not worthy of a PPV event whereas they're treating Shakur as this boxing super star which he's not.
It's going to be an event by itself from what it sounds like. Having Shakur Stevenson as a PPV main event is a huge mistake and it's more likely going to be a flop. I would have figured they just have Beterbiev vs Bivol as the main event with Shakur vs Cordina as the co-main event.
Wouldn’t mind seeing pit bull swarm Shakur, he’s only had two fights at super so could easily get down in weight with his small stature. Pit bull destroys Shakur for me
I don’t think that’s the angle here I think they want to get as many eyes on the fight as possible, and maybe they want to make amends for the card they didn’t end up headlining when Beterbiev got injured. I don’t know but I don’t think this is a disrespect thing, it shows that turki doesn’t care about making money from it because both are still going to be getting their biggest pay day.
I hope Cordina is still on the card against someone else. Lot's of good lightweights looking for a fight right now, they shouldn't have any real problem finding a replacement.
