They’re both fighting this weekend and both are ranked top 5 at 135. If they fought, who you backing?
Zepeda is the stylistic nightmare for Shakur at 135, and would beat the brakes off of him and stop him.
I have a feeling Zepeda isn't going to look so devastating against Cabrera. He might look a little different on Saturday.
shakur beats him up. shakur is like bam, on another level. its just that bam is is a better general. or has a better team. so bam has developed faster. but talentwise they are same level. i dont think zepeda has the legs to stay with shakur. and i think he gets tamed by shakurs jab.
Zepeda has the style to overwhelm Shakur imo. The Cabrera fight should give us a good indication of how things would go though.
I'm not picking Zepeda because of his power, I picked him because of his style. He's a relentless southpaw swarmer who actually knows how to cut the ring off. Not all that dissimilar from the style Robeisy Ramirez beat him with in the amateurs. Clearly when you take into consideration his pisspoor performance against De Los Santos, if there is a kryptonite for Shakur, it's his fellow southpaws. Power and skills can both be rendered irrelevant, when you're facing a problematic style. Quite frankly, it won't shock me in the least if Harutyunyan gives him fits, based on how well he performed against Martin.
At this point, I'm not picking against Shakur unless he moves up ridiculously high for his frame, like 147 for example.........................not anyone at 135, not anyone at 140. The more "elite" the fighter is, the uglier the fight would end up being...............and if it's a pressure fighter Shakur's style will always look even worse than him outboxing another "boxer". Pressure fighters (even ones that aren't on a high level) will always make boxers look "less than". Even very good boxers. But they still won't beat the boxer.
People are mistaking Shakur's weakness for skill; I didn't see much skill against Dos Santos, rather a fighter who was petrified to stay in range and ended up stinking the joint out. Zepeda vs Stevenson won't be a pretty fight, but with fair judges who don't conflate negativity for ring generalship or skill, then I would confidently back Zepeda.
