Exactly, a throwing a jab and leaping a foot away every time your opponent makes the slightest movement isn’t skill. Shakur is lacking some serious offensive capability. Zepeda with his ring cutting skills and volume just might be the guy to expose him.
Santos was the first fighter he faced who was just as fast aa him. That messes with a fighter who's used to being the faster fighter in the ring. Pbf struggled with zab early because zab was just as fast as him and could beat him to the punch. It had more to do with reflexes and speed than the southpaw stance. Zepada is no where near as fast shakur who will live off the jab he's not there to be hit he will land and be gone all night on zepeda racking up points and winning rounds. Zepeda will be lost and be frustrated and shutdown. He's not on shakurs level and gets a boxing lesson.
Shakur desperately needs to secure a stoppage win tomorrow night because he's already fallen under the sub KO 50% and nobody ever wants to see that, especially from any fighter ranked in the P4P top 20. He's currently sporting a KO 47% which is completely unacceptable and let's not forget that that's a KO 47% for a fighter who grunts when he punches which makes that KO 47% feel more like a sub KO 30%. Bivol who isn't a grunter was in danger of falling below the KO 50% mark or close to doing so going into his last fight but he handled his business like a man and got his opponent out of there and now sports a KO 52%.
I don’t get why some boxing fans drool over boring defensive fighters. Shakur is the mini version of Frank Sanchez. Like Frank, Shakur will get beat up by a good pressure fighter who knows how to work the body.
Zepeda is excellent, but I'm not certain that he posseses the requisite foot speed to close the gap on Stevenson consistently enough to get his offensive going. Say what you will about Stevenson, when he elects to avoid engaging, you're not hitting him with a whole hell of a lot at that point. Honestly, I think it may very well come down to what tickles the judges fancy, an aggressive if likely only marginally effective approach or a "stick-and-move" style that frequently emphasizes moving at the expense of sticking.
I'm convinced that this would be the toughest fight of Shakurs career, our modern day Mayweather-Castillo.
Hope they actually make this happen. This would be a great test for both of them. This content is protected
Like who? Boxing fan would give him a ton of credit. I think you are confusing fans not wanting to see his boring fight versus giving him credit. If he makes this fight and even wins it in a boring fashion I sure as heck will be giving him credit.
sounds like Oscar is against it. Oscar needs to stand aside and let it happen. It's a good matchup and one worth watching. We'll see if Zepeda is talented enough to cut off the ring against Stevenson, then have the ability to hurt him. Stevenson needs to redeem hisself after two awful performances in his last two fights. It's about time these 'top tier' fighters start fighting each other. It is long overdue for Stevenson to step up up.
