Shall we put to rest any notion of Ward-Golovkin being competitive?

Never said he did but they are leagues below Golovkin and if they are still around after 9 to 12 rounds.....Ward isn't just turning up and walking through Golovkin.

I think Ward's chin is better than Jacobs' and he took Lil G's punches all night

Looked clueless in parts last night. Looks poor under pressure from a fighter with movement and quick hands....

 

Well for me Golovkin clearly beat Jacobs by at least 5 rounds and Ward clearly lost his last fight. Always said I would favour Ward over Golovkin but it would not be easy.

 

Golovkin would be arguably Ward's toughest fight and opponent outside of Kovalev.

Ward wins imo but it won't be easy and even Ward has said this himself.

 

LoL at Ward having zero power and GGG walking right threw him.

I wonder why Kovalev didn't blow straight through him and backed off every time he had him up against the ropes?? And Wards shots are less effective on 175 pounders then they would be on 160 pounder

Punchers don't need 9 rounds to stop Paul Smith....a TKO at that.

Ward is great at what he does but he isn't a puncher in any sense.

 

Froch is less skilled than GGG is. And Ward isn't 26 or whatever he was when he fought Froch any longer. Just like GGG isn't 28 any longer.

Size isn't the issue. Power is. Jacobs has a lot more power than Ward does. Power that made GGG think and hesitate. Jacobs said as much after the fight in the post-fight press conference.

Ward brawls and mauls. That's how GGG likes to fight.

He's walking into GGG's wheelhouse with a pea-shooter.

It's not a great match-up for Ward.

Maybe he wins by being on his bike, but I doubt it. When GGG doesn't care what you hit him with, he just runs you down. As he did with Brook.

Jacobs is not a normal-hitting fighter. He's a power puncher, like Lemieux is. GGG fights those guys differently than he fights the light-hitting guys.

It's a different fight. A different match-up.

Not only is Ward not going to keep GGG off him, he's not even going to try. Ward fights on the inside. That can work against Kovalev, but it's not going to work against GGG.

 

It's a competitive fight. Always was.

They're both slightly past their prime and neither is more reliant on reflex over technical ability. They're very evenly matched.

Jacobs fought well and if anyone deserves a fairytale turn of events it's him. The problem is that stylistically, Kovalev is much closer to Golovkin than Jacobs is to Ward so if you want to judge an apple as if it were a pear then you should assume Ward would struggle with Golovkin based on the fact that the Kov decision was much more contestable than last night's. It doesn't work that way.

That fight's a pick-em and very unlikely to happen.

Jacobs fought a hell of a fight, and took some real punishment to get to the finish line.

 

Never said he was a puncher. When did i say he as a hitter?
