Exactly. Hatton was comprehensively outclassed by a supremely gifted boxer, but the fact he was prepared to go up against the P4P#1, to take the fight to him even after the first knockdowns when he must have known he was in deep water, is a testament to Hatton's bravery. True, you can say that Hatton was actually *too* brave (bordering on stupidly brave) for his own good, and that if he'd tried to just survive after the first knockdown, got on his bike a bit, covered up, he might have lasted longer. But that isn't in Hatton's boxing make-up. He's an all or nothing kind of guy, it's just who he is and how he fights. If he does retire, i'll remember him fondly as a warrior who gave his supporters some memorable nights.
Yeah. I agree. I am not trying to put his career down or anything! And i completely respect his will to go at the best, as i said earlier in the thread. My point was, he just didn't box any different? After all the things he said... I guess I am just disappointed that after months of waiting he just turns out to be "The same old Ricky Hatton" :bart
Yeah, last night when he was walking out of the ring, he got one more chorus sang to him by his fans...."theres only one ricky hatton..." I think that will be the last time he hears it.
His heart, his will to attack and never back down, the pressure and the assault he attacked each oppnent with, how he fought relentlessly, how he was respectful and calm outside of the ring. His will to fight the best, anywhere. But all of that became his down fall, thats why I am so annoyed he didn't change any of his ways, everybody knew if he went in like the old ricky hatton he would of got destroyed. Thats why I made the thread shame on you, shame on him for promising to be smarter, he wasn't at all. I respect him and his heart. But manny, just looked amazing, I don't think he missed a shot and what a dramatic shot to end it all.
None of that shows "greatness". Hell I can think of hundreds of fighters who posess those qualities. That shows determination, nothing more.
I think even if he was a bit more polished than he had been against Lazcano, Mayweather Jnr, etc (and that's all he'd ever said - that he'd be basically the same sort of fighter, only with some defensive tweaks here and there), Pacquiao was just so good that Hatton wasn't able to show it. You can't blame Hatton for having confidence in himself that's silly If you wanna blame anyone for making this fight appear closer than it actually turned out to be (same way it was when he fought Mayweather) blame the British media. They are a terrible thing for British boxing and regularly build people up way too high, just to be proved wrong, but it's only the fans and the boxer himself who have to take the wrap
Yeah. I read that too, nobody was expecting him to do any special tricks, they just wanted him to apply smart pressure, he just walked up to him and ate shots. And yeah, manny is amazing. I completely accept that now. I am not taking away anything from him, i knew he would more than likely knock Hatton out, this was just supposed to be a war. Should I blame hatton for being too easy to hit? or should I just say that it was Mannys speed that made Hatton appear that way? :think
