carwin would most probably be the worst striker thats ever competed in k-1! adding 10oz gloves makes it alot harder to land so you have to use alot more skill and timing!
He stuffed the takedowns of an NCAA wrestler and a black belt BJJ. It allowed him to punch them in the face. That is the blend of wrestling and boxing. He also pinned Mir against the fence and Brock on the floor. If he was a rubbish grappler, both would have broke free.
CC had one of the best TD defences in MMA. Is he a stellar wrestler too? Iv yet to see Carwin control any opponent with a superior top game. Iv seen Brock do it in his short tenure and do so excellently vs Frank Mir in both fights. Iv yet to see any of Carwin's socalled wrestling.
Carwin's striking consists of the same old one-two combo mixed with the occasional uppercuts, subpar footwork, horrendous cardio, and lackluster speed. The only thing that enabled him to have success in MMA is his hard-hitting punching power coupled with the fact that the average MMA fighter has less-than-stellar chins. Badr Hari would murder him. Semmy Schilt would dominate him. Alistair Overeem would ragdoll him. etc, etc, etc In fact, the only fighter out of the final 8 that Carwin MIGHT be able to beat is Tyrone Spong (and that's only because Spong is undersized).
Compare Shane Carwin's speed, power, technique and accuracy [yt]jo409OwzHQg[/yt] to Badr Hari [yt]Cp5w3X5gzr8[/yt]
I wouldn't like Carwin's chances in K-1 - he's too slow and doesn't seem comfortable with kicks (either taking them or throwing them). Now if he was to drop a bit of weight and improve his footwork, it'd be interesting to see how he would do in boxing.
I'm not saying he would succeed or do well, but: For those who said he's slow, have you actually seen schilt? He is slower. For those that say he has no cardio, he went absolutley flat out on lesnar for 5 mins then gassed. Alot longer than the 1 min people mentioned here. I also think he gassed primarily due to in-expereince and being over-excited. He had never had a fight last that long, he made more of a mental mistake not pacing himself than anything else. K1 is only 3 X 3min rounds, i think he would do okay at that. As for kicks, he's probably never really trained them, or trained them very little. Any easy thing to fix. Do i think he would beat a Lebanner, Overeem or Hari? No. Do i think he would be a complete failure though? No. I think he would do a hell of alot better than that pretender Ben Edwards who made it to the final 16 and who Overeem just knocked out in the first round.
Schilt has won the GP FOUR times. He is one of the most decorated fighters in the history of the K1. He also has a bonafide history as one of the pioneers of MMA during his tenure in Pancrase as the King of Pancrase, the UFC and PRIDE. He is one of the best strikers in the world and infintely superior to a rookie like Carwin but you think Schilt is actually slower? Seriously have you seen his fights? Granted Semmy has lost a step as his been in this sport for a long time but you're actually going to compare Carwin and Schilt? And no he would not do better than Ben Edwards. Ben Edwards would eat Carwin alive in less than a round. Edwards is legit you best believe it. He has a good chin good recovery powers and can crack. He's also a bonafide heavy and Muay Thai striker. Theres no way in hell Carwin would even do any better than AA. Who himself was fortunate that he broke his nose in training.
he'd be just as bad boxing as he would k-1, he'd get sparked in both by any half decent boxer/kick-boxer!
No, but it did show some glimpses, plus we know he has a rather good wrestling background, so while he may turn out to be a bust in terms of takedowns and control, I would doubt it.
