FiveOuncesOfPain.com have learned from sources close to the fight that Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez will face off for the #1 contenders spot in the UFC’s heavyweight division at UFC 104.

UFC 104 is set for Los Angeles, California on October 24.

Carwin will be making his return after he suffered a severely damaged nose in his knockout destruction of Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 96 in March. He has strung together a perfect record of 11-0 during his fighting career, with all three of his wins in the octagon coming by way of knockout or TKO.

Velasquez will be coming off of the biggest win in his young career as he recently defeated the highly ranked Cheick Kongo by unanimous decision at UFC 99.Velasquez has put together a perfect record of 3-0 with the UFC, with a career record of 6-0.

The winner of the bout between the two is expected to face off with the winner of and Frank Mir II at an event yet to be determined.

Good fight for 2 up coming prospects. Cain's getting KO'ed from the mount or standing though. Carwin is one VERY big man.

This is what I like about the UFC. They're not afraid to put two up-and-comers with perfect records in the cage, let them beat the hell out of eachother, and let one walk out with a loss.

Good stuff, I'll look forward to this. I'm taking Carwin by maulage. CV looked fleshy at 239 and Carwin looks shredded at a much higher weight.

Looking forward to this fight. Its a good co-main event to Machida vs Shogun. I also think Carwin will take it

They have no other choice. They have reached a point where giving them journeymen and gatekeepers wont cut it anymore.

Now they have built them up enough that pitting them together wont ruin either fighter because they are both coming in undefeated and are on the cusp of a title shot.

This is because Dana realized that neither is a blue chip prospect and the loser is expendable whoever that may be
