What's people's thoughts of him a trainer? Listened to a few pods and they all range from the closeness of the Postol fight being Shane's fault, to the turn around being down to Shane!

To be fair he seemed a bit panicky to me think it was after round 7 in the Postol fight, probably as realised they were losing at that point and that was probably Postols best round.

Gave right information that Postol couldn't handle the intensity and some other good info in the earlier rounds. Pretty sure he told Taylor to stop loading up quite early on.

I think it's clever that he seems to always have Jimmy Tibbs in the corner with him to provide the experience he lacks, that really showed on Saturday when Tibbs seem to take over in the later rounds. I like the style Shane's fighters box in and they all seem to use the uppercut to the liver which isn't seen often but is a very good shot.

    Don't really get him......
But how much of that is down to the fact he gets instantly discredited because of his lack of in-ring experience?

You don't need to have been a horse to be a jockey and all that.

He was a national amateur champion which is more in ring experience than many trainers.

I'm a huge Barry mcGuigan fan, but I can't warm to Shane as a person. On TV the way he comes across isn't great....He seems hard and cold, lacking personal warmth. You may say the op asked what sort of trainer is not if he is cute and cuddly, but I do think personal likeability is needed in a good trainer.

That said for such a young guy he obviously has had a lot of top level training work, though you could be cynical and ask would he have got to train top boxers if his name was Murphy or lynch?

Overall he is a very successful young trainer so far.

Like anything he is still learning. He gets his fighters in good shape and usually has a fight plan.
I think he probably does get panicky when things are going wrong but I think when he has been through a few different problems and situations he will relax a bit more.
I dont think he is the best trainer or the worst.

He has had great success for a trainer of any age let alone one so young. Len is right hes got the boxers he has because of his dad, but in fairness we can only deal with the hand we got gave. I think he often comes up with good gameplans but i think when the pressure is on in big fights he is very poor in the corner on fight night. The Frampton v Santa Cruz 2 fight and Taylor v Postol fights are clear cases of this. He is famed for his sports science and nutritional knowledge but i notice Frampton was fitter in his last fight with Jamie Moore than he has ever been. Though you could combat that by the fact Groves looks fitter under him than he did before.

He showed his lack of experience in the Frampton Santa Cruz 2 fight. Why he hadnt even thought Santa Cruz was maybe capable of using his reach, was amazingly naive to me.

Having said that he has been brilliant with Groves and so far near flawless with Taylor.

All coaches have you and downs with top fighters but Shane has been tremendous overall and isn't negative with his tactics.

Can't think of many boring fights involving Shanes fighters

I like what I see so far.

Easy to nit pick and call out on things he may have said or done in between rounds, but he seems an intelligent guy so I've no doubt he'll be learning from any mistakes that may be made along the way. Tibbs is in there to help him as well as the fighters, and I'm sure him and his dad probably don't talk much else apart from boxing so he's in good hands on that front.

I like him as a trainer. I think overall in regards to training hes good.
He has the fitness and diet covered well, the boxing aspect he will bring experience from his am days and fathers knowledge of fighting plus its something hes grown up around, so i reckon he knows boxing mechanics good enough to be training the big boys.
As a cornerman im not as convinced, well lets say as a high level cornerman im not as convinced. Ive no doubt hed be great down at 4 and 6 rdrs but when your talking championship fights, where the right bit of info at the right time can be a gamechanger, i dont think im as confident about him.
Lsc 2 was a good example here and also in the taylor fight i think that if tibbs hadnt been there the cornerworks instructions wouldnt of been as good.
Im also not as convinced in his abilitys to nutrure someones pschology leading into a fight, there mindset.
Its not aa easy as building ones confidence as you would expect.
Relative to the other uk trainers hes certainly up there with the top ones. Hes young and keen so i only see him getting better.

Seems an intelligent guy, been around boxing all his life, plenty of amateur experience and has been in the corner for massive events with Carl Frampton.

Also he is sensible enough to have Jimmy Tibbs in the corner to help where he may be lacking.

He's doing alright to be fair.
