Shane Mosely: De La Hoya Is Better Than Mayweather...

DLH's prime jab defeats Mayweather, the old, slower one gave Floyd problems already.

How so?

 

Would the fight have happened? Of all his skills in the ring nothing was as great as Floyds talent for timing when to take opponents on. Fighting guys in their prime wasn't really a priority.

 

Sounds like a real ale!

 

Prime DLH would be favored over FMJ.

 

I think floyd paid as much attention to the timing of selecting his opponents as he did to the rest of his boxing career. Don't you?

 

Let's be completely honest, the answer to if Oscar could beat Floyd depends on what you consider Oscar's prime and what Floyd's prime was. I consider his prime from when he ate Genaro Hernandez through his loss
vs. Shane. Floyd (no matter how hard his detractors scream it), was not in his
prime at WW. He was never prime at WW. He was still a specimen and I'd say
his mind and skillset possibly even more advanced but he not in his physical
prime. No combinations, power deficit, not as fast. Floyd's prime I'd also measure from
his dismantling of Genaro Hernandez through his decimation of Gatti.

A prime WW Oscar, the Oscar that fought Ike Quartey, I have no doubt in my mind
would smash a WW Floyd. Oscar retained speed, had more power and was one of the
best boxers at parrying shots ever. But that ain't prime for prime, because Floyd aint
a WW. He honestly should've never been a WW and really was only chasing Zab.

Now a LW Floyd vs. LW Oscar (who had a good stretch of his prime at LW), would've been
a different matter altogether. It's a better comparison because both were in their physical
primes at LW. Oscar had all the attributes at LW that he did at WW, Floyd had his WW skillset
but in addition to that, was a harder hitter, and was much faster of hand and foot. At LW,
Oscar vs. Floyd was a 50/50 fight. Not a blow out for either man, but even right down the
middle.

Final: I'm tired of the narrative that Oscar vs. Floyd was a close fight, it really wasn't.
Floyd literally coasted until he determined he had no chance at stopping Oscar. Once
he figured that out, he just piled on points. The fight was competitive, not close, damn
a split decision. A crowd screaming as Oscar punched (and missed) doesn't sway me
in the least.

 

Everybody makes a great point but Floyd’s Prime was 130 and Oscars was 147 the ideal fight for both in their prime would be 135.. At 135 I favor PBF.. Mosley didn’t want Mayweather smoke at 135 either he chased the big money at 147 vs Oscar

 

De la hoya had a significant size advantage and still lost, my opinion is that fighting mayweather at the highest weight possible was his best shot at winning but he couldn't get it done. I don't even like Floyd but he was better.
