shane mosely vs floyd mayweather @ 135

Floyd. Yes, shane was fast, but speed won't win this matchup. PBF would outpoint him using his superior footwork and accuracy landing on SSM at will who never paid much attention to his defence.

 

Mosley was a physical beast at 135, but his defense was very open and Mayweather as ever was near impossible to land clean on. Mosley's speed may make his connect percent better BUT he telegraphs his shots a little and FMJ would see them coming. I also don't think coming in the ring at 160lbs would do much for his stamina down the stretch.

The best 3 boxers Mosley faced were Winky, Forrest and Delahoya. The first 2 beat him twice, Delahoya brawled the first and when he boxed and moved in the second possibly deserved a decision over him

Mayweather UD 9-3 - the early rounds are closer, FMJ is 4-2 up after 6, until Mayweather takes over down the stretch, winning 5-1 down the stretch. I actually see FMJ rocking Mosley a bit because Mosley would possibly walk into the right the same way he did against Forrest and FMJ would see Shane being open to it.

 

Shane's LW reign is somewhat overrated. He never faced great competition at that weight

Mosley had more pop at LW but I still think FLoyd would stay out of harms way and win a comfortable UD

 

I think Shane would be a very tough fight for Floyd at lightweight. If I was going to build a fighter perfectly suited to causing Mayweather trouble, I'd give them the following: fast hands and feet, tough chin, good skills inside, the ability to gradually apply pressure, and a good jab.

Of those, the only thing Shane is really missing is the jab, as he's always flicked with his jab. But regardless, between Shane's speed and power, (remember, Shane either KO'd or TKO'd nearly everyone he faced at lightweight) there's a chance he could put Floyd a little too much on the defensive and take a decision, especially because while Floyd will counter Shane plenty, I can't see Floyd hitting Shane with enough to either make Shane tentative or to stop Shane from coming forward.

Good match, bet on a close decision that could go either way.

 

It would be an intriguing fight. Mosley has the edge on strength and power, and his handspeed and activity would give Floyd some torrid rounds, but I think Mayweather on his best night at light would take a close decision. All-round, I do just feel he was a more varied, more intelligent, more skilled fighter than Mosley was, and cream would rise to the top.

 

Floyd UD. I think Floyd has every advantage possible over Mosley except maybe height.

I do think that Mosley's conqueror Winky could have beat Floyd tho.

 

Mayweather at 135lbs, UD. I think he would perhaps shade a close decision. His handspeed was around the same as Mosley's, perhaps a shade quicker. And his mobility was better here than at WW. Mayweather was closer to his prime at 135lbs.

Mosley at 147lbs, UD. Mosley was simply better at welterweight than Mayweather. His game went upwards after initially moving up to welterweight. He was at the peak of powers between the Rivera and Stone fights. Faster hands and simply better all round at WW than he was at LW. I think he would beat Mayweather over the distance. Again, a close one.

 

No way did Floyd have more power then Shane at lightweight.

 

Mayweather by competitive decision.

Mosley is the bigger, more physically gifted fighter, but Mayweather was smarter and had more skills. Mayweather had a strong, educated jab when he used it, which would help disrupt Mosley's rhythm. I suppose it's a broken record to say this by now, but Mosley's more of a speedy slugger than a boxer. He liked to stay at mid-range and slug, and left himself open quite a bit. Mayweather's great at exploiting openings and is an accurate hitter. The most trouble Mayweather has had were against Castillo and DLH. Mayweather had no business above 147 for DLH, and Castillo's pressure and rough tactics up close gave Floyd problems. Mosley's not that type of pressure fighter. He stays at mid-range, throws a pawing jab, feints, does some improvisational move, then opens up with combos. With this style, he'll have some success, but not enough of it.

For a while I argued Mosley..But now Im pretty sure Mayweather edges it at 135 and its a toss up at WW. Shane looked awesome at LW but he gets a slight Moorer-esque over exaggeration of his abilities. His LW record was average after Holiday, would have been great to see him unify against Johnston, Grigorian and Bazan..With a little more depth to his LW resume maybe I wouldnt be argueing for Floyd right now.

Shane was a great combo puncher and rarely neglected the body..Its not hard to envisage him landing on Mayweather just as much, if not more as Castillo did in their two fights..He was a lot faster and had a more varied attack than JLC.

Physically just an amazing speciman for his stregth, size, speed, chin and power...But he never really developed elite level skills. His style and tactics that he and his dad worked on complemented his physical gifts nicely but it came undone several times in Shane's career.

Floyd is just as fast, just as physically impressive but his overall skills are a clear level above Shane and this splits them.

 

Out of curiosity, does anyone feel different about this one after the Margarito fight? Margo and Floyd are obviously nothing alike, but Shane certainly showed that he still had it and reminded us of just how fast and strong a fighter he was at his peak.
