Ok, I am a big fan of Shane, always have been. Was shocked as hell when he loss to Forrest the way he did, it was crazy shocking for me at that time because he was my favorite fighter at the time and I was still a teen. And he looked great at his age going up against Margarito, beating the living crap out of him. It was great times. However if anyone saw his interview with Brian Kenny on FNF, he sounded like he was on the edge of punch drunkenness, the beginning of it. His intonation of his voice was slurred at times, you could see him struggling to find words to say like it was not there for him, among other things. Now I know that he could've been excited about his victory and this could've produced a sort of "stage frieght affect" or perhaps, like what happens to most people sometimes words come up missing when we discuss things. Sometimes we forget, it happens. But looking at Shanes old patterns and now, I am not so sure this is one of those cases. If you look at his eyes and when he was talking, there is something going on. He has signs of the beginning stages of being punch-drunk imo. I hope I am wrong, but I dunno. He end up like Sweetpea. Maybe worst because he is not retiring no time soon. Throughout his career he has been hit too much. What do you guys think?
I agree with you. Have been thinking the same for quite some time. I wish he retires soon cuz he has been around for too long for whats healthy.
You guys could be right, although I hope you're wrong. As long as I've seen Shane, he's always looked a little nervous doing TV interviews, kind of hesitant and soft-spoken. The last interview didn't set off alarm bells for me, but then I was more interested at the moment in hearing what he was saying, not how he was saying it. He has definitely taken his fair share of punishment with his style. Hopefully he knows the end is near.
Ummm...as far as I know, Sweet Pea has shown no indications of being 'punch drunk'. If anything, it seems as though most all of his problems were outside of the ring (coke, D.U.I.'s, etc.) not inside.
I thought I heard an interview with him slightly slurring, but we are talking about one of the best defensive fighter. It is too bad about all the outside issues. If anyone had it bad, it is Meldrick. Damn shame.
Nah Nice try wrong guy! It's good to see you're concerned, but no need for alarm. He has lost to Wright and Forrest ,neither of which are beaters
Yeah but you could say the same thing about a lot of fighters. I don't think he's showing any signs yet but he probably will in the future, its all part of the game unfortuneately. But there are a lot of top fighters who have taken more punches then Mosley. I'd say Cotto in his fight with Margarito will have put more wear and tear on him in the long run than Forest and Winky put on Mosley, same thing with other countless fighters.
And no one else ever punched him? He's fought some big hitter over the years and taken a lot of shots. Doesn't matter if he won or lost; he still took shots in every fight. I agree with OP that he sounds like he might be getting a bit punchy.
Also, remember sparring wars compiled with amatuers and pro fights. Yes, you wear headgear, but they are still small concusions.
I can understand what you guys are saying . But i do not believe it, after a fight most people seem anxious. Shane has always been apprehensive in the limelight and that has always made him a lesser star.
You are probably right about this. I guess few guys have that many amateur and pro bouts - no matter how good at defense - without some damage occurring. I forget what (famous boxing guy) who said: "A fighter does not have to look hurt, to be hurt." Meldrick's story? It's nothing less than a "crying" shame!
To be honest as great a fighter as Mosley is he definitely is no defensive master His defense has almost always been his offense
