Okay, I'm just trying to figure out why Shane Mosley has gotten way overrated as of late. He has always been a tad bit overrated, but now he's fighting Floyd and all of a sudden he is this "slick boxer with a lanky jab", "this monster who can walk through anyone and any punch"?! I can't help but to think it's just a bunch of little kids new to boxing who are claiming Mosley will undoubtedly KO Floyd. Guys, incase you didn't know, this is the same Mosley who was beat by a jab against Winky. The same Mosley who was outboxed by Oscar's superior boxing ability, the same Mosley who was outhustled and nearly KO by the technically sound Forrest , and the same Mosley who was beat to the jab, and outboxed by Miguel Cotto, the pressure fighter!! In the last 8 years Shane has had ONE good performance against a true title holder. ONE. And this title holder is the COMPLETE opposite of what Mayweather is. Mayweather is a better jabber than Cotto, Mayweather is a better boxer than Winky and Forrest. As much as I appreciate Mosley, he will undoubtedly get outboxed by Floyd. I do however give Mosley as punchers chance.
I've always rated Mosley very highly (ATG), but I don't think he'll beat Floyd who is a bad style matchup for SSM and also a better fighter at this stage. That being said, you gotta remember that the first polls on this fight were 80-20 in favour of Floyd. But as is the case with every Floyd fight as it gets closer and the promoting gets into full swing, people start thinking he will lose. Its not hard to convince someone of something that they want to believe. Its happened before. Floyd is always a good last minute bet. Mosley beating Floyd would be huge for his legacy. Floyd beating Mosley would be a major flop on his part and a big setback. If that happens it'll be hard to rationalize even in hindsight as anything other than Floyd not being as good as Mosley.
Over rated as of late? I'm trying to figure out when all these turncoats suddenly thought Mosley was a no chance in hell type fighter. The man is a great fighter. Great.
I don't know ... Mosley beat PRIME Oscar 2x ... didn't he? Also the lose to Winky was like decade ago and Winky never fought at WW, finally Floyd ain't pressure fighter as Cotto ... or do I miss somethings? Sure Floyd is great defensive fighter and technician but your comparisons and points taken from nowhere are awful.
Well considering his age, his performances against inferior fighter to PBF such as Cotto, Mayorga, Forrest, and the fact that in the last 9 years he's only had ONE really good win, 5 losses, two hard fought wins against 2 different (shot, past prime at best) fighters, I don't see him having anything more than a punchers chance. Out of those 5 losses, which should actually be 6 if you thought (and most do) Oscar beat him in the rematch, he was always outboxed and outjabbed. Now at his advanced age he is fighting the most technically skilled fighter out of the 6 losses he has. Think about it.
no worries, I it's hard to pick up small things like that when you're proof reading your own work and I think you meant so say shane here
He's fighting a guy who has never even been on that level at WW yet. How is he overrated? If anyone is over rated for this fight, it is definitely floyd.
No, he beat him ONCE, when Oscar decided to stand toe to toe. But in the rematch Oscar decided to BOX, and outboxed Mosley. The consensus will tell you Mosley got a gift against Oscar who was thoroughly outboxing him. The Steroids helped Mosley stay real strong in that fight, but Oscar still outboxed him. The Winky losses were about 5 years ago not 10. atsch And yes YEARS have passed by and he's older, and less mobile now. That completely proves my point. Cotto the pressure fighter actually OUTBOXED Mosley. PBF is a far superior boxer to Cotto. Sorry dude, but you were wrong in EVERY SINGLE quuote.
I cant say i disagree with what your saying. I do however think Mosley has a decent footwork but here is the thing, he has decent footwork when he is backed up not when he has to adopt role of aggressor, that coupled with other intangibles is one of the main reasons he wont win. Mosley does not cut the ring down well and seems to just try harder when something is not working rather than try something different (adapt) Its a little harsh for me say Mosley is just an aggressive fighter because he clearly has skills as evident by his picture perfect counter left hook of Vargas but he is what he is, a Boxer/puncher who needs you to engage him. I actually think Mosley made DLH look more competitive than he was in the first fight because! of his willingness to bang it out.
I agree with you in just about every point, except the last one. I have always thought Oscar could have outboxed Mosley in their first fight, but Oscar had something to prove so he went balls out against Mosley. I felt Oscar's decision to slugg it out brought the best out in the speedy slugger Mosley.
