btw those who bring up margo, styles make fights, margo is a sitting duck, he takes shots and then gives one, mosley just had the perfect game plan

just think of it this way, if mosley was 9 out of 10 in his prime, I would say he is 7 and a half or 8 out of 10 now

 

Leonard had more ring smarts than Norris but, just wasn't as hungry nor as quick. Mosley at 38 is still very good. That's testament to how good we was before. A 28 yo Mosley would have much higher chances against Mayweather.

Maybe maybe not. It remains to be seen really and all fighters are different. For example, I dont see Evander Holyfield being as successful against Mike Tyson in 91 as 96. Holyfield was far less reckless in 96 and used a strategic gameplan to take apart Mike Tyson, something he would have never done when he was younger. His physical skills werent close to what they were, but he was a lot smarter.
Nothing suggests that Mosley is bad as some of you are making him out to be, or ever as good as some of you are making him out to be, especially using DLH as the only example and the losses against Forrest and Wright. One of his two biggest wins has come in the last 13 months. Again, Ive always felt there was a lot of hype surrounding Mosley that he never lived up to. He was a solid fighter in the past, and using his head and fighting a little more composed is continuing to make him a solid fighter now.

 

If Mosley was so declined, nothing suggests he would beat Margarito given Margaritos recent wins, even beating the guy who beat Mosley, and another guy who is right there to be hit.

 

Mosley had a lot of speed, power and hunger when he was younger. I don't believe his gain in ring smarts (if any) is enough to compensate for the attributes that have diminished and gave him that edge. De la Hoya was an excellent fighter and possibly an ATG (though he would only just scrap in if he did) and Mosley beat him. Mayweather hasn't fought anyone of Dela Hoya's calibre let alone the Mosley who beat Dela Hoya. My money would have been on Mosley had the fight happened 10 years earlier. He might still get out-boxed but his likelihood of finding that KO would have been a lot higher. Mosley today would not beat Dela Hoya of the first fight.

 

Hmm, what suggests he had more power? He just stopped a guy who had never been stopped in his entire career. Mosley has never stopped a fighter in the condition and at the level of Margarito at 47. And how can you suggest hes not hungry? He took on Margarito who noone wanted to fight and stopped him and was willing to take on a young up and coming fighter in Berto. I would say hes as hungry as ever.

 

No he's not as good , but I have a feeling he may be good enough!

Mosley has a good jab when he feels like throwing a good jab.

 

Mosley is not the fighter he was when he was 28. But he has compensated for his age related shortcomings with strategic holding, fighting in bursts, etc. I would say he is around 85% of the fighter he was in his prime. But I would say he is smarter fighter now with Richardson in his corner.

The is another question people need to ask. Is Floyd the same fighter he was back in 2005, 2006 or 2007. We have only seen him one time against a guy who offered no resistance. Any top 10 welterweight would beat Marquez. For how great Marquez is, he just isn't a welterweight and thus wasn't a true test. Imagine what Mosley or Cotto would have done with him if they came in 146. He wouldn't have made it out of the 6 round. Like I said, Floyd is definitely the favorite, but will he have the hunger and desire to beat Shane? Will the fall out of the Pacquiao fight effect? I don't think it will but those are questions that need to be asked of Floyd too. You don't just take 2 years off and everything is the same, or maybe it is. Floyd could just be too good. But this is definitely a test, as Floyd will be 33 fight night, with only 1 other fight in the last 3 years against a lightweight.
