This interview is from July 2012, Shane Mosley is beginning to show the early signs of brain damage. It's isn't James Toney kind of bad, but you can clearly see his speech is beginning to worsen, he isn't enunciating many of this words correctly anymore, and stutters a bit too much for it to be normal. For those of you who have watched him his entire career, you will remember he used to sound much more coherent than this. The sad part is that CTE is a degenerative disease, the damage continues even after the boxer stops taking blows, which is why you see guys get so much worse 5 to 10 years down the road... It's crazy to think this man is now boxing again, his life might be very bleak in 5 to 10 years :/ [yt]d2AoivtEGaU[/yt]
Not gonna lie, Mosley should have hung them up a LONG time ago. A true warrior, but his granite chin will be his worst enemy in the coming years. FFS, I listened to an Amir Khan interview today and he sounded like he was starting to slur his words as well.
What's CTE? And can you post a link. Ali had Parkinson's, he just got worse and worse (his speech) from 80s to 90s even though he stopped.
From the 35 second mark and onward I thought I heard some slight slurred speech, still cant tell completely though.
Yes, he doesn't seem right at all... and the scary part is that he is still taking punches. It's a shame guys keep getting licensed when they shouldn't be. Look at Holyfield and Toney, they clearly don't care about licensing punch drunk fighters.
He gets that heavy tongue where he mumbles over words at random times, stumbles on his words alot... when he talks about rampage, and at the very end it is easy to discern something isn't right... It can only get worse from here on out too...
I checked a video from March 2012 and he seemed ok, with little slurring evident. In fact, he seemed normal. I find it hard to believe that in the space of a few months his mind would have degenerated to such an extent. I think what needs to be considered is teh context of that interview. To me it looks like some sort of club or restaurant. As such, it wouldn't surprised me if he was more tipsy, and alcohol drunk rather than punch drunk. I hope I'm right.
If he wants to keep on fighting then so be it, its the life he chose and if anybody is gonna take the high moral ground with a boxing icon like Mosley then we should also ask for the thousands of tomato can level fighters licenses to be revoked as well but nobody cares cause there just there to be used as cannon fodder for a young fighters record to be built up.
Sounds like Evander Holyfield. Strange, being that he hasn't really been in wars or suffered any prolonged beatings. His punch resistance is just about gone, though. :verysad
probably has more to do with his breathing like most boxers who mess up the cartilage in their noses which affects their speach because they have breath out of their mouths.
Mayweather and Pacquiao gave him quite a beating, he took alot of shots in those fights, plus the thousands of rounds I'm sure he has sparred in his career.
