One of the best LWs ever or at least of the modern era ( post-60s) but commited a lot of mistakes technically and was absolutely misconducted by his father to resume his fighting to get guys spectacularly out of there with a one shot. Even after the great KOs and the titles at WW and SWW, he defitely dragged around too long and was mostly if not absolutely shot in his last 3 or 4 fights.
RJJ took chances in his prime, otherwise he wouldve never fought BHOPS or James Toney, hell he wouldve never went up to Light heavy weight and fought bigger guys, guys like Hill. The thing about RJJ is this, people blame him for not having fought all these names who were around at the time, as if it is all HIS fault. But as you SHOULD KNOW, boxing doesn't work like that. A lot of fights don't happen, and it almost always has nothing to do with ducking or avoiding challenges. The difference between Mosley and RJJ, was that Mosley was never really in a position to be the money man. Mosley could not impose his will in fight negotiations as far as money was concerned. He was no Oscar, no Mayweather, heck he was no Manny Pac. Sure he had the skills, but for whatever reason he just didn't have the popularity and crossover success. RJJ was in the position of being the top dog for most of his career, when he became the money man in his divisions, he became the guy who controlled the money negotiations. People were given offers to fight RJJ, but many turned them down, because even though they would be given a lot, the amount to them did not match the risk. And I understand this perfectly, and this is why many of those fights did not happen. And then there was unfortunate circumstances that occurred, like lets say G-Man beat Benn, there is no doubt a fight between him and Jones wouldve happened. This wouldve been one of the biggest fights in history. But of course we know what happened. But let me break this down. Mosley was never that "dude", for whatever reason, even Mosley could not understand it he never inherited the celebrity and with that the money after his fight with Oscar like Mayweather and Pac did. After Oscar the only person he fought that had a chance, but no one gave him a chance was Forrest. Forrest absolutely destroyed him. After that Mosley goes on to have a no contest, and win a fight against Oscar where most thought he loss, I felt he was dominated that fight. The only fight I give him extra credit for was Wright, not Forrest (as no one thought he was going to win). The Wright fight, yes... no one wanted to fight wright, Oscar ducked him, and many others for a long time. Wright style was all wrong for the post-Forrest Mosley who no longer through punches in bunches. My opinion on RJJ is this, he went after challenges, but being at the top, he was egotistical and he shouldve been more respectful, as far as money talks go. But many of the challenges that people at HBO wanted to see him in there with, he actually DID fight them! Like Hill and Reggie Johnson... Those were names mentioned that Larry and others said they would like to see him fight. When he fought them and destroyed them, then they didn't give him his props. So then what happens is that people like you say he didnt go after challenges and underrate the victories that he was challenged to get.
