Looks like this might be on for Jan. 30, what a great way to start the year. Although it would've been awesome if Mosley fought on boxing day, but at least its a better match-up then Clottey. I've said it before, there's no reason why Shane and Berto can't get it on for Jan 30th. Mayweather clearly wants to wait for the November outcome which I understand. GBP needs to step up and throw Berto some more chedder to secure his signature on the dotted line. If Shane can lift that green strap, it gives him some serious options for the big May, June, July dates. Only catch to this scenario is maybe Berto will be too much flash and dash for Shane even with 10 oz gloves? However my instinct tells me Mosley...looking at it stylistically, Berto's fast hands can keep Shane from setting his feet often and laying down power punches but Shane can adapt in a fight against a youngster like Berto and he's skilled enough to land the more meaningful shots imo...maybe it ends in decision but i gotta feeling Shane take's him to deep waters and drowns him with Berto taking a few big ones and going out late. There's one small thing that scares me about Berto. In the last fight with Urango, Some people including myself picked up on that illegal jab that Andre was using throughout. The way he was using it was more than just a bad habit, it was obviously something they worked on as it was his weapon for space and distance. If Naseem gets this taken away from the bell with a point taken inside of 2 rounds, it will be interesting to see if Berto can adjust those gloves over with a stiff 1 instead of the backhanded jab. should be a great fight though, so who you got fellow Brit ESBeers? :good
can anyone confirm if this has been agreed? is it even close to being signed? or i'm i just playing fantasy boxing again lol
I'd love to see this fight happen. A resurgent Mosely agains up and coming Mini Mike Tyson. :happy I am going to say Mosely takes the W on points via UD or possibly a late stoppage. I still think SSM has a few more really top performances in him before the inevitable decline sets in and he is suddenly a full time promoter. Berto can bang but doesn't have the greatest defence imo, reminds me of a certain mexican plaster of paris fists mutha and we all know what Sugar did to that sucka!!
Agreed. He's a plastic Mosley. Shane is inconsistent these days but he does everything Berto does, better. Fair play to Berto if he's took this on but he loses.
I'd give Berto a better chance. It's not that bad of a matchup for him, not compared to a Cotto, Paul Williams or Mayweather.
Williams is a non starter, Mayweather obviously would toy with him I don't think he has the extra gears or class to mix it with Cotto or Shane, personally But Shane is hit and miss, that's the caveat
That inconsistency and the fact they ain't all that different. But Berto is actually faster than Shane at this point. Berto will try to frustrate him from the outside and tie him up and do a lot of holding when Mosley tries to get into his mid-range comfort zone. I don't think it will play out as a mismatch even though anybody that watched their respective efforts against Collazo would immediately pick Shane to win easily.
Fair enough, it wouldn't be a mismatch I'm just surprised Berto would take this fight rather than wait for Shane and Floyd and possibly Margo to exit the scene He seemed to be hurried into his title, I thought he'd play safe for a while yet
He could be waiting a long time for that. Nothing Mosley says suggests he's eyeing retirement anytime soon, Mayweather has obviously come back with big ideas. They can't fight cans for years so I guess they are taking a calculated risk. Particularly when a guy like Selcuk Aydin pops up as a mandatory. You'd rather lose to Shane Mosley for good money than lose everything against a less heralded opponent.
I used to like Berto's style. But he's going to get found out and found out bad. He turns down fights for 500k like some prima donna and struggles with a guy like Collazo? Thats a bad sign. Shame as the kid has a good style and boxing savvy. Anyway Boxrec has them down to fight Jan 30th 2010. And its a unification. Who holds the IBF at 147? Looks like Shane may unify all the belts!!!!!!
