I love Shane Mosley, but I think Tony is a little too big for him at this stage of his career. It would have been different back in the day, but today Tony by UD.
I don't think Mosley should stand toe-to-toe with Margo the whole fight, but he will definitely trade and mix things up--that's what Shane does. As others have mentioned, he's never been a tactical genius. But yeah, I think the keys for Mosley are conserving energy and picking his shots carefully. To the surprise of many, Mosley might be able to hurt Margo enough to gain his respect. In addition to having a better chin and stamina than Cotto, Mosley hits harder, too, I think. Mosley did not fight the most intelligent fight when he faced Cotto--he'll need to fight a little smarter than normal to have a chance against Margo. Either way, I'm psyched at this prospect!
i think floyd wanted it and shane went a different direction then shane wanted it but floyd was going a different direction i think if shane can pull it off it would put the name shane far enough into the spot light for floyd to consider it
Mosley schools the slow, plodding C-Level at best fighter. Wait, that was my '07 response atsch I still say Mosley by UD in a close fight.
I'm a huge fan of both as obvious already and Shane always wants the best, that's well known already. The talks of Mayweather contacting him were obvious with Shane turning it down to clear the way for DLH. What's forgotten is that Mayweather also asked for Shane back when he was at 135 but never got the fight, as I followed both closely that's what I found out, surprised not many bring it up. Floyd Sr. mentioned it recently in an interview to confirm it was true.
Agreed. I think Mayweather would've preferred a Mosley fight in the fall of 2006 over a Baldomir fight. Forget about "lineal" titles, Mayweather wants the big event and big money, and a Mosley fight would've been a much bigger event than the Baldomir fight. But Mosley had "dental" (Oscar and Schaefer said no) problems. I think in 2007, after the Mayweather-DLH and Mosley-Collazo fights, Mosley probably wanted Mayweather, but Mayweather fought Hatton. I'm sure the rest of GBP besides Mosley didn't mind, "Undefeated" made huge money.
Mosley has underrated power, the problem here is activity, he's not as active as he used to be in my opinion and against someone like Margarito you CAN'T afford running out of gas. That's when Margarito shines, as soon as his opponent slows down from his punches and also from throwing punches he starts to shine and slowly breaks his opponent down by landing more and more of his punches. Mosley already showed against Cotto that he did run out of gas late, the man is old that should be expected and against Margarito he can't afford that.
Not to forget that Cotto could be fighting the winner of Berto/Forbes or Cintron, so his opponent won't be completely unknown either. That card would be PPV worthy in my opinion.
Yeah, you see fighters throw less punches as they get older, because they have to. Mosley usually can go a strong 12, but you see him clinch more nowadays and fight at a more deliberate pace. I don't know if he can do that against Margarito. He's going to have to be really good at picking his spots and clinching when he needs to. He clinched a lot against Cotto, and Margarito has an even better workrate and stamina than Cotto. I don't think Mosley can pull it off, as I pick Margarito to win a clear UD.
I don't think Arum is gonna promote 2 of his big names on the same night on different venues. It doesn't make business sense.
