He'd be a test, but I also think he'd be pushed in ways he doesn't like, by a few of them, including Viruet. Mosley appears as a bit of a Lightweight phenomenon, but he really didn't fight the level of quality that Duran did.
NOTE: This is from a person who started watching boxing in 1995 ( his/ her admission) . Obviously has no clue.
But Duran`s prime weight was at lightweight, that`s what I meant not when he was in his 30`s and heavier, Duran didn`t have the reach for the higher weights and Tommy and Hagler had amazing reaches.
No, I actually was showing how easy a winning boxing record can be made. But I'm sure you know that........Right?
Shane was a great fighter at lightweight, he really was. His comp might not support it, but he completely dominated at that weight, and sometimes that speaks volumes. Yes, I would favor him over all of Duran's opposition, though Buchanan presents him a lot of style problems. My concern is that Buchanan simply can't hurt Shane, at all. Mosley would also represent the best challenger Duran faced at lightweight. And no, I wouldn't pick Shane over Duran, but I'll give a controversial opinion... Mosley gives Duran a harder fight than Chavez would. I think Duran more-less dominates Chavez. With Shane, he'd have some problems with Mosley's handspeed and physical strength. Although ultimately, Duran was just the more skilled (offensively and defensively), more cerebral fighter than Mosley, and would win a clear decision.
Well, Mosley fought in an era where he could weigh-in the day before and gain a lot of weight. He wouldn’t make 135 in Duran’s day and would he be juiced or not? DeJesus-Mosley is a pick’em perhaps Shane has a small edge but I think Buchanan is too clever for him. Mosley was not a smart fighter and struggled with a jab in his face. Buchanan was tough as nails so he’s not going anywhere either and he had incredible stamina.
I was such a huge fan of prime Mosley. Especially at lightweight. He was a ruthless speed demon who was committed to the body and could knock you out with one punch. Defensively sound. Very slick and had incredible angles. He couldn't be hurt. Mayweather would have major problems with that version of Sugar Shane. He had a great chance against any lightweight.
As with most boxers' opinions about their contemporaries, I doubt Duran's sincerity or memory here. Boxers - as well as athletes in general - have a tendency to elevate people who are clearly a tier below and denigrate those who are closer to their level. That I agree with - maybe not so Viruet though. I think Esteban is the only one who could beat Mosley among this crop, albeit I couldn't decide the winner if I had to bet my house on it. The pre-Forrest, lightweight Mosley was special - albeit untested against great competition.
Mosley beats Mayweather at lightweight. I am pretty sure of this. I think ODLH beats Mayweather, too, though I am less sure of that one.
