The Mosley speed and power would make for a great matchup, but no way can we be convinced anyone 'crushes' Lomachenko. Gary Russell was as fast as Mosley and not too different stylistically, and Loma schooled him and trounced him. Mosley beats guys who were willing to come to him and engage him. Loma would be the pure matador here, and as the shorter guy he'd have to be careful moving, but I'm sure despite giving up 10 lbs he wouldn't have too much difficulty managing moving and popping Mosley. We know as great as Mosley was he was troubled by elite outside boxers, Forrest, Wright, Oscar, and Floyd's positioning and timing. Loma just wouldn't be there for Shane to dish out fast combos like he did against his pedestrian lightweight competition. I'll give Shane respect and say he won't quit on his stool, but Loma wins almost every round clearly.
Mosely had concussive power; Lomo slaps you into submission. I can see a Mosely win here by KO. Lomo would have to use every bit of his quickness to stay away from Mosely's power but eventually would get caught IMO.
Loma's ring IQ is insane and innate.....its like walking or being innately scared of a snake; completely ingrained into his psyche. Pure mastery of a discipline.
Loma wouldn't, he has the footwork to avoid doing so. While Mosley had incredibly handspeed, he didn't have the footspeed to match Loma.
I don't think Russel Jr is a good comparison. Mosley had 4 inches in height and 7 inches in reach on GRJ. Mosley had a better jab, hit way harder, even moved better as at 135lbs Mosley was pretty light on his feet compared to Mosley at welter.
Fair enough, beyond the speed they aren't that similar. Obviously Loma showed he can handle speed with footwork and timing, so just saying the Mosley speed alone shouldn't worry Loma. Sure the combination punching, the size, the power threat as well as the speed would pose a greater challenge. But the fact is Mosley looked so good beating guys who were easy targets at lightweight, and his issues with a sophisticated mover may well have been exposed had he faced one at lightweight. I'd definitely love to see Loma against a Mosley-like opponent, and I at least shouldn't be confident Loma would dominate all the way... but I think he'd win!
Gary Russell Jr. is equivalent to a prime Shane Mosley now. Here's a zany new twist. This latest episode in the internet boxing community's ongoing history of folie à plusieur is a real study in the lengths some will explore to distort reality when they really want to believe in something. One day, the perpertual rush to prematurely anoint greatness might even stumble upon an actual elite fighter.
