I have to go with Mosley. More proven over a longer period of time and both mentally and physically tougher. Meldrick was a sensation and a pleasure to watch, but it was short lived and had a rather sad ending.
Mel might do a bit better at Lt Welter, Given his mobility and Hand speed, But of course Shane would be no Slouch, and would bank on Shane's full distance consistancey to give him the edge on the run in, strangely for a Lightweight, i think he settled better at Welter than Meldrick, who seemed to Bulk up, perhaps too much weight training, and loop his punches, Shane's straight punch Armoury, against a more accessible Meldrick, whould see him contain meldrick, Than Shanes more effective Welter Closing ability could see a late stoppage, It might depend on how minded Shane is to put it beyond the call of the Scorecards, either way Sugar Shane a bit too sweet here i suspect.
At 140? Taylor by comfortable decision. Too fast, too busy, just a better boxer period. Post-Chavez, Meldrick would be a different story. Meldrick was hit or miss after that life changing loss.
What are some of Meldrick's best performances? I've been meaning to go back and revisit more of his earlier fights.
Nice matchup of guys with similar attributes I think Taylor wins a Split Decision in a very competitive fight.
there is NO version of taylor that goes the distance with ATG shane. just because they were similar does not mean they were the same.
I think Taylor comfortably outboxes Shane. Shane has proven over and over against good boxers, he can be befuddled and outboxed. Taylor was a solid boxer and had even quicker hands. Unless Shane happens to catch him and finish him, it's Taylor's fight to lose imo. Now at 147, I would pick Shane
Another vote for Taylor. He knew how to shoeshine with those flurries and the judges just love that stuff. Way too high of an activity level compared to Shanes's. the other big factor at play is those low hands of Mosley. He keeps them at his waist and has that head straight up. I don't think he can effectively parry all those quick combos Taylor would throw. Too many get in & that would win the rounds. Shane would play the waiting for counters game. He'd land some but he'd need multiple kockdowns to keep up in the scoring department.
