He was barely adapting to welter when he fought Rivera. As for Forrest completely different styles than Brown i dont see how you can make the comparisons. THis would be exciting but Mosley would use his superior speed and all around game to beat Brown. I cant see Brown beating the Mosley that beat Oscar the first time. Im talking a prime Mosely , the one that fought Cotto would be close to pickem with Brown.
And what adaption did he make which made him a different fighter post Rivera? He still had a tendency to brawl, he still liked to leave his hands down indiscriminately at times. Do you want to claim that he got tougher, stronger? Even if he did, it's not as if Brown was a light hitter like Rivera. Forrest and Brown are different styles sure, but Mosley wasn't just hit by Vernon Forrest at welterweight. If Brown lands some good shots he can put Mosley in just as much trouble as Forrest did and then some. I think a prime Brown would blow the Mosley that Cotto fought out of the water to be honest.
Cotto and Mosley fight pretty similarly. I would say Cotto has a bit more overall outside boxing ability. I think the chin factor is the biggest question mark here, and I think Cotto hits harder than Mosley, but probably cant take as good of a punch.
I dont think Browns boxing ability is even close to Forrests. This fight would favor both Cotto and Mosleys styles big time as Brown loved to mix it up. It would come down to speed and power in my opinion as both fights would be excellent action fights. Forrest was an excellent technician who easily took advantage of Shane's brawling style.
Mosley post Forrest is the most overrated fighter of the decade, perhaps any decade.Only DLH post-vargas really comes close. How these two convinced so many they were still worthwhile elite fighters for so long i'll never know. '80s brown, before he showed us he wasn't a great fighter by steadily regressing as a boxer-puncher, was a poor man's McCallum type. This should be good enough to be at least even money with Mosley, and certainly favourite over the one that fought Cotto
Brown was just as if not more unsuccessful at the higher weights. Shane did do a pretty good job on Margarito who was considered one of the best welterweight at the time, long after his fights with Vernon so that certainly gives him a bump. Probably the second best win of his career? As a welter, he did pretty well for a boxer brawler type, really only struggling with Forrest and Mayweather, two very skilled technicians and unfavorable style matchups. Pretty impressive stuff coming up from lightweight.
