I can be perfectly neutral here even tho I admit that I hate somebody's guts. One thing that Shane doesn't have to control the fight is legs... Yeah, it's pretty obvious he can't run after a guy like Mayweather and he ( Shane) still may have the footwork to get set and punch in close. You can't just try to load on a guy like Floyd without feinting him faster ( and that's why I gave Ricky a reasonable shot against him). It seems pretty obvious Floyd doesn't have big punching power but he has grown into a solid welterweight and he can hurt someone by just sticking jabs, sneaky rights and leading left hooks... I would say this fight is all about discipline, patience and fast thinking. Very much like Mayweather vs Judah, not as much as Jones vs Tarver I...
I think Shane is going to have trouble finding the target like the rest of Mayweather's opponents. Look for a connect percentage around 20% for Shane as he loses a UD. I would be surprised if he lands 25% or more of his punches.
i honestly think floyd beats mosely very badly. like someone said earlier i'd be suprised if mosely wins 4 rounds. Mosely doesn't stylisticly match up well with floyd very well. sure he is fast, but not as fast as floyd, he has good foot speed but not as fast as floyds. If he uses his jab he catches straight counter rights all day. If he tries to throw a big right mayweather tags him with a left hook, right cross combo. sure he has a punchers chance, and a very good one at that being that he is the most skilled fighter at ww that floyd has fought. but shane doesn't deal well with a good counter puncher. If floyd handles mosely the way dlh did in there rematch it will be an easy win IMO
If that really is Anthony Thompson then that's pretty cool. A few years ago he knocked out a well known fighter from my hometown who was a world class level contender at light middleweight. I took boxing lessons from him(Robert "Pushup" Frazier FYI) before he moved to Florida. A friend of mine back in my Army days used to call me Deebo. Not sure why I felt the need to post that lol
I think the ref will be a major factor in this one . How much ducking below waistline, elbowing, clinching etc will he allow?
I see the jones tarver comparison though I do not see the fight being near the ropes as much. It will be inside like the Hatton fight but not for 12 rounds. Shane may get close early. And then close in the late rounds but I feel Floyd gets a separation in the middle of the fight where he shows his distance in ability. Hardest fight for Shane in a long time. Shane has KO'd the likes of Mayorga Margo and Varga but all 3 good wins where he looked spectacular in 2 awful with Mayorga but these were guys who were there to be hit. Floyd wont have to think twice about standing in with him.
I feel it's pretty uncomfortable going into a fight thinking that you have to do maths prior to it and win three, four, maybe five rounds to make it close. Strategy is most important, technical adjustements maybe more, mental drive should be more than anything here. Shane Mosley has a big shot at Mayweather b'cause he has the confidence - remember Shane after the Margo fight and when asked about the game plan he and Nazim had - " You gat to be a very special person to beat Margarito"... Shane knows he's special even tho he's modest and doesn't speak much. Floyd knows Shane is hard to beat too. I really don't think you have the recipe to beat Shane. Many have said that Collazo had the slick southpaw style ( Winky-like), others said Cotto had the punch to overpower Shane ( they went toe to toe and didn't back off)... Floyd is difficult to fight yes but the way Bernard Hopkins is, doesn't mean you can't beat em. Floyd Mayweather has to fight a Baldomir kinda fight to win safe but remember Shane is much more skilled and wiser. I don't think Floyd can outjab Shane like that, check hook him or sneaky counter shoot without taking some very accurate and solid shots.
