    A fast, powerful lightweight who went on to collect the IBF title and defend it 8 times, before moving up to welter and taking Oscar's WBC title.

    Defended that a few times before losing it to Vernon Forrest, and moving up and collecting more from Oscar again, this time at LMW.

    Losing it to Winky, he would not collect another until the vacated LMW title with Mayorga, and the WBA Welter from Margo.

    Its hard to say when not everybody has a top 100 list of all time. I have him behind the likes of Whitaker, Chavez, Barrera, Morales etc but ahead of Holyfield, Wright, Trinidad etc. For me he is sort of in the middle of his era's ATG's.

    over a fat riddick bowe after 1 man jumps,
    in the ring,
    compared to two wins over de la hoya11111,

    Thats the reason for the thread- many have him as HOF but ATG status is much more in the balance.

    He's surely not an All-Time Great - yet. In 50 years, he's not gonna be talked about like Robinson, Moore or Louis are today.

    The two victories over De La Hoya are his only historic achievements and one of them was a gift decision. I personally think Oscar is a bit overrated, but he will be remembered and that's why the V's count big.
    Two victories over Vargas are meaningless. Vargas hasn't beaten any prime superstar. He got KO'ed by Tito and Oscar as well. I don't think people will think much of him in 20 years.
    Same goes for Mayorga.
    That leaves the dismantling of Margarito. Thing is, Margarito would have needed to destroy some other big name beforehand. As it is, he's probably going on the same page as Vargas and Mayorga.

    Shane will have had four fights against ATGs. Oscar (like it or not), Floyd and Manny. If he doesn't beat Manny, he won't be an ATG. If he somehow pulls it off, we can talk about it.

    He always reminds me of Holyfield. Just as Holy fought every frickin' Heavyweight of note in the last 20 years, apart from Tua and the Klitschkos, Mosley fought every (S)WW of note apart from Tito and Williams.

    Agreed. Also, I have a feeling he will be remembered with more love than he gets right now.

    Ok I haven't compiled a top 100 list. However in the past twenty years I have him behind: jones, toney, calz, lewis, holy, tyson, wlad, mab, em, jmm, oscar, winky, tito, oscar, hopkins, chavez, whittaker, floyd, pac.

    I put him in the same bracket as mel taylor, vitali, cotto, naz, nunn, bowe etc.

    So for me no, he isn't one of the best 100 in history.
