Thats him Phil you defo got the right bloke , did he make a decent fist of the fight he was probably about 19 stone at the time if i know Yog ? he's 100mph every time i bump into him mate which ain't very often these days as he moved abroad ( England ) good kid and a one man gang if i ever saw one , Rocky , Yes the new Grandson is doing fine thanks mate 9lbs 6oz hands like shovels lol i will have him up the Joe's before he's 7 y/old . my Mrs won't be happy but ive already sorted it out with our daughter :deal
Josey in all honesty it was one of the very worst fights I ever judged EVER! Both lads were more interested in clowning and posing than actually punching each other as hard as poss. It had surprised me because he had always been right in every other fight he had here. Seemed like a great, great bloke
Yea , If he aint on he ain't on thats been a constant throughout his career as his record shows ,he survives the fight but has always had a passion for clowning around ,im surprised he was still fighting over there aged late 30's if im totally honest he should have hung em up years prior to even going to OZ , he asked me and my mate to go there and work his corner but my Mrs wasn't having any of that :-( , i bump into his old man Johnny from time to time and his eldest boy and mine are mates but like i said he lives over the bridge these days and we only meet in the boozer at xmas etc . Funny as hell though when out on the **** we have had a few scraps and scrapes around Cardiff back in the day a life time ago
So you in Cardiff itself Josey? I went to Wales once when I was a kid - Caravanning holiday. It started to **** down the moment we crossed the border and didn't stop until we crossed it coming back the other way! LOL I have been chatting with Jason Cook on facebook; I met him at my first world title assignment in Essex in 2002
Yes phil im a Cardiff lad about two miles from the millenium stadium central Cardiff , I don't know Cookie all that well i know he won an IBO title a few years back but lost it almost atraight away , tough lad from Maesteg if i remember , Sorry about the weather in Wales but that rain is all good mate as it fattens the sheep up before we **** em , Nothing worse than a skinny sheep , Aye TEKE :good
Yeah Maesteg, he had battled weight problems for ages and left it all in the Sauna against Rios. Great guy; I was standing outside the football club where they weighed in with Richie Davies and Jason was standing there in a pair of Man U shorts - his legs were a shade of pale blue and we were putting **** on him for it when the rest of the Welsh lads turned up, I looked behind me and Richie had legged it: quickest the ****er has ever moved! They were a great bunch of guys and I had a few chats with them after the fight and the monring after before I left. Jason is eyeing a comeback at prob light-welter around december
lol , good to see him comeback but i think his title fighting days are over , hope im wrong though he does seem a decent lad , Phil how long have you been associated with the IBO ? if im being totally honest here mate i dislike all the ABC's but the IBO in all fairness to then have improved over the years and are waiting it would seem until one of the top four shoot themselves in the foot once too often like the WBA with their Regular champ **** , whats that all about ? i rate the Commonwealth title in higher regard than that **** mate
Hi Josey Since 2002 in Essex. They were the first people to actually keep their word to me after crap with some of the WB's so I just tried to repay them by speaking to some promoters here and it just snow-balled from there! It's been a long road but it has all been about improvement and it is working. Basically mate, I've said it before - if we were just like the others there would be no point in our existence! It's going very well I must admit. I was scheduled an assignment for Cooks first and only successful defence in Bridgend but could not get the time off work. I'll get back there one day and hopefully it ain't pissing down! LOL
Good on you Phil it appears your hard work is paying off , the IBO title is gaining more credit worldwide with the passing of every year , one title is as legit as any other to the belt holder , in an ideal world there would only be ONE title per weight but i realise those days are long gone , if the IBO gives a fighter a legit unification fight as its holder then fair go . BTW check my email addy at the top of the page and if you eve get back here to wales drop me a line , i can garuntee the weather will be better , Global warming see Mate :good
And people reckon driving hummers was a bad thing Josey! Mate consider it done. Next time I head back to Leek-eating territory I'll drop you a line
