Some people are still talking about Shannon Briggs and how he is still a threat to the HW division. They are saying how good he was in his prime (when was that - Wilson, Lewis, Botha?) and how he would have beaten the Klitschkos. Well if he was so great, then he should have at least five good wins on his resume. Please list them...
He only has 3 "good" wins: Liakhovich, Mercer & Foremann. Some fair, and rest are ... Still I think he is a treat to anyone who wants to fight, because of his KO power in both hands and good chin (atleast the one he showed against Lennox, he just kept getting up). Anyone good that moves & stick wins over him fairly easy.
I think that's the point. If that is one of his best wins then his resume clearly isn't that good. Top 5 would be: Liakhovich Foreman Mercer (was he nearly 50 as well?) and that's about it.
He didn't beat Foreman. In fact he clearly lost. Liakhovich,Mercer(altough very past it) are his best wins. The other 3....don't even know...maybe Dicky Ryan,Chris Koval....Okine?
He had a decent career. Nothing particularly great although he operated at a disadvantage with the asthma. You do have to love the power he had. But he wasn't that mentally strong and I think he over-bulked. Either way, good career, not that great. Always has a puncher's chance with anybody.
Wladimir - Byrd, Peter, Chagaev, Ibragimov, McCline Vitali - Peter, Sanders, Arreola, Gomez, Kirk Johnson Haye - Valuev, Mormeck, Maccaroni, Fragomeni, Barrett?
I wouldn't include Mercer there. He was not only old and as shot as one may imagine. Even with that, the fight was more or less even (in the sense Mercer was in the fight)... the KO was after a shot that was anything but legal. So IMHO while this win is technically a win, it means even less than his "win" over Foreman.
